SEGA and Creative Assembly has recently announced the coming of Shogun 2: Total War, which will be the sixth instalment in Creative Assembly’s Total War strategy game series for the PC. Shogun 2 takes over as sequel to the previous Shogun: Total War game, a full decade after the first Shogun’s release.

Shogun 2 takes place in mid-16th century Feudal Japan, which has been split from a unified government into several smaller clans and cast into a grand state of war. The game roots the player in the role of the leader of one of these clans with his sights set to become the next ruler of a unified nation in order to restore order and peace. He will have at his disposal military engagements, fluctuating economics, and shrewd diplomacy in order to achieve this lofty goal.

Shogun takes what its predecessors have done and pulls it into the modern area. The game features full 3D battles via both land and sea, as well as a tactical campaign map that is often regarded as the heart of the Total War series. A brand-new AI system is employed, using inspiration from classic Japanese warfare as well as Sun Tsu’s Art of War to challenge even veteran strategy gamers.

“Developing Shogun 2: Total War gives us the opportunity to use recent technology to portray one of history’s most exciting civil wars.” commented Mike Simpson, Creative Director at The Creative Assembly and father of the Total War franchise. “Ever since we developed Shogun: Total War 10 years ago, the team at The Creative Assembly has always dreamt of using our accumulated experience to revisit Total War in Feudal Japan.”

Shogun 2: Total War deploys in 2011, exclusively for PC.

Winfrey Hopefully going back to Shogun and limiting the scale of the game will help Creative Assembly get the details right. Especially computer AI and balancing the different units.

    Cris Any gameplay screenshot?

The artwork looks nice but but I'd like to see what you can actually do in-game.

Gate28 Ummm... is that actual concept art? Do they have an ancient Japanese scribe doing their concept art?
