Alright fine, I went for the sensational headline that probably isn’t true; I can’t say that G.R.R.M actually stopped writing to work on games, but the dude will find ANY excuse to postpone the next book. Call me a sensationalistic journalist, that’s fine.
This may come as a huge shock to fans; but our pal George has found yet another distraction to keep him from FINISHING THE FUCKING BOOKS ALREADY. Errr…. sorry, I get a little carried away.
At any rate, Cyanide Studios, a French developer known for their blisteringly popular Pro Cycling Manager series, has acquired the rights to create games in the world of Westeros and all her high drama.
The press release mentions the word “games”, but no word of what types of games is mentioned.
Set in a world where nothing is simply black and white, the rich web of characters makes it an ideal background for numerous genres of video games.
That seems a bit unfocused to me. This could mean almost anything.
Don’t get me wrong: The Song of Ice and Fire books are spectacular novels. The world is rich, the characters deep and well developed, and the story is exciting, moving, and intense. They have struck a chord within me like few other fantasy novels have. I know many others feel the same way I do. I suppose we should be used to having our precious franchises butchered, but each time we hear about one of our sacred cows being put up on the auction block, we harbor a secret hope that something amazing will happen.
I have that secret hope for these games. History, however, has shown that I will very likely be disappointed.
