Sony offers free 12-month subscription to identity protection service

Sony PSNSony, as part of its restitution to users affected by the recent security compromise, is offering a year of identity protection alert service by AllClear ID. The “AllClear ID PLUS” service is available to all registered PSN users who were members during the time of the compromise.

The AllClear ID Plus package includes 12 months of the following services:
Cyber Monitoring and Internet Surveillance
We work with law enforcement to scour the Internet looking for compromised personal information and criminal activity, and if your information is found, we’ll alert you to help prevent loss.

ID Attack Reporting
Over 600 major US companies and government agencies report and share identity theft attack information with us. If your identity is discovered, we will alert you and suggest actions to take.

Actionable Alerts by Phone With Secure Voice Key
If evidence of your identity is found online, you’ll receive a secure call so you can take immediate action.

Direct Connection to OnCall Investigator
If you suspect fraud, a licensed OnCall Investigator will launch a thorough inquiry.

Complete Identity Repair – Priority Service
If your identity is ever stolen, our OnCall investigators will work to fully repair and restore it – saving you time and money.

$1,000,000 ID Theft Insurance
You’re covered for certain fees, lost wages and fraud losses related to recovering your identity.

If you’d like to sign up for the service, head on over to Sony’s sign-up site.

BobbyDigi That is Awesome. I remember joking that people should demand credit monitoring from Sony. I give Sony props for doing this. They messed up bad but seem to be handling it very well. Almost to the point I wish I was effected :-P

  2. PirateNinja
PirateNinja This is kind of the standard corporate response to identity theft. A class action will follow, and those involved will get 2-3 years protection. A fund will be setup to pay out to those who can prove damages from the identity theft (fund won't ever be touched except by lawyers), and some money will be donated to some bs non-profit identity theft educational organizations.

    That is my guess anyways.
  3. Cyclonite
Cyclonite Just had some fraudulent activity on my credit card that was associated with my PSN account. Fortunately, AmEx is pretty good about catching these things and freezing the account until I call.

Anyway, got my code for AllClear ID and registered this afternoon. Registration was a piece of cake. Still frustrated that I have to do this.

drasnor I read "Sony" as "Sorry" in the first sentence. I'm reluctant to sign up for identity protection because of the sheer volume of spam they generate when renewal rolls around and with the low volume of transactions on my accounts it's pretty easy to tell which ones I made.
