Spotify added to Boxee Box

D-link announced today that the popular social music service Spotify is now available as a Boxee Box app (read Icrontic’s Boxee Box review).

While Spotify Free users can still use the Spotify app, the real benefits (and isn’t this always the story) come from being a Spotify premier account holders.

Premium users get:

  • Social —Facebook is deeply integrated within Spotify; easily see what your friends are listening to, share your discoveries and listen to their top playlists
  • Ultimate Flexibility —Stream playlists and tracks discovered on your computer or mobile device directly to your TV through Boxee Box
  • Unlimited Listening, Zero ads —Premium subscribers pay no additional fees and are never interrupted by ads; just connect your account and you’re ready to go!

Spotify on Boxee Box

Spotify made a big splash earlier in the year when they used Klout (very) successfully to introduce themselves to the US market. It competes with other social music services like Last.fm, Pandora, and Turntable.fm (though in slightly different ways.)

At any rate, if you own a Boxee Box, and you like Spotify, this is good news for you.

  1. Annes
Annes I want to love Spotify SO, SO badly. But I can't. I was first disappointed by the collection and parts of the interface. Then I was disappointed by the increasingly frequent and annoying ads. The final straw was the mandatory Facebook integration for new users. I was going to go premium after a couple of months of checking it out. No more.

Preacher What Annes said is legit. I tried it and went back to my Rdio family plan...VERY happy with Rdio.
