Sweden takes TPB offline, but it’s back

Today the Stockholm district court that handled The Pirate Bay’s springtime case ordered the site’s primary bandwidth provider, Black Internet, to disconnect the site or face penalties.

Citing compliance with Swedish law, Black Internet did disconnect The Pirate Bay, but the site has since relocated and is back online. In true Pirate Bay fashion, the site has taken to patronizing big copyright with a blog update denouncing the act.

“The MAFIAA has spent millions of dollars and endless amounts of time to get this ban in order. Our guess is that they also bribed a bit to get it since it violates so many laws not only in Sweden but also in the EU, not to mention violations against human rights. And what do they have to show for it? 3 hours of partial downtime,” they wrote.

Additional civil cases brought against The Pirate Bay are pending, and these too could have an impact on the site’s uptime in the coming days.

Obsidian I can't believe I never noticed the The Music And Film Industry Association of America is so close to the Mafia. It makes sense, I guess. With the odd name it seems almost as if that was their intention though.
  2. Snarkasm
Snarkasm It's not their actual name. The MPAA and RIAA have not joined forces and created the MAFIAA.
  3. ardichoke
ardichoke I wish they would though. Truth in acronyms anyone?

kryyst Yeah mininova has been ditching trackers since they first got slapped in May. Same with ISOhunt. Trackers go up and down constantly on those sites. The thing is, with mininova anyway someone puts up a copyright tracker and let say it takes 24hrs for them to find it. By then, depending on the popularity of the file 1-5000 people may already be seeding it.

For example a new video game hits launch, or a TV show finishes airing. Those torrents go up very quickly and people search for a few days. They just need to hit the tracker once and start downloading. Once they are grabbing it, the existence of that tracker no longer matters.

For trackers that do get taken down and it's been happening a lot on mininova someone puts them backup again. Now that this court ruling is final I would imagine things will get tighter, but Mininova is far from kaput.
