T-Mo announces second Google phone

Lamely dubbed the myTouch, the QWERTY-free handset runs Android and should hit the shelves somewhere in the late summer. [Via]

Garg I can't believe they take cool names like Dream and Magic and rename them to G1 and myTouch. It's like the Japanese cars that get renamed with alphanumeric garbage here.

chrisWhite Yep, stupid name but that thing is dripping in sex appeal. Looks really nice and it sounds great. 512kb on board seems a bit less then ideal though, even with a micro-SD. I did that whole storage card song and dance on my old HP ipaqs and I sure as heck don't miss it.

    UPSLynx No QWERTY? No thanks.

chrisWhite Might be surprised Lynx, if it's done really well you can get surprisingly fast with a software keyboard.

Watch this and tell me this isn't friggen' fast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLgPC3nlRBg

ardichoke I have been waiting for this phone to be released in the US... I was actually planning on buying it, however since it isn't dropping til August now I'm thinking that I'll be going with the G1. Sure the 5MP camera would be nice to have.... but then again so is the physical keyboard and the price on the G1 is much nicer as well!

edit: I guess I may be wrong about that 5MP camera... I had read earlier that the US version was supposed to ship with an upgraded camera but now it's looking like it's coming with the standard 3.2MP. Also, the phone is apparently shipping with an 8GB SD card bundled in.

Thrax Do. Not. Want. Screen. Keyboard. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever.
  7. Snarkasm
Snarkasm I touch my screen enough already, and I have a qwerty. I have to echo, at least until they create a grease-proof screen, that no keyboard = no buy.
  8. chrisWhite
chrisWhite I hear that Snark, that bit sucks on every friggen' touch screen. A nice screen protector helps but I *never* get those stupid things on without bubbles that drive me equally nuts.
  9. ardichoke
ardichoke I feel you there chrisWhite... I always have problems with that. I used the method seen here to apply my laptop skin though and it produced a nice solid application with almost no bubbles at all. I imagine it would work with screen protectors as well.
