Target to sell the Kindle April 25th

Target confirmed rumors today by announcing that they would be selling the Kindle at their stores starting April 25th. The Kindle will initially be sold at Target’s flagship store in downtown Minneapolis, and 102 stores in south Florida.

“We strive to enhance our product offerings to include surprising products and services at great values so we’re proud to be the first brick-and-mortar retailer to sell Kindle, allowing our guests to feel how lightweight and easy on the eyes Kindle is,” commented Mark Schindele, Senior Vice President of Target.

It is likely that this move is an effort to compete with Apple’s iPad, which is already sold at brick and mortar locations across the United States at Apple stores and Best Buy. Selling the Kindle at Target will give Amazon access to a greater number of consumers than ever before.

The Kindle will be coming to stores outside of South Florida gradually over the course of the year.
