So, I’m not sure if you’ve heard or not, but I’m part of Team MotownSXSW, one of ten teams from around the country that are competing in the 2011 Chevy SXSW Roadtrip Challenge. The Chevy SXSW Roadtrip Challenge started last year; it’s a road trip/scavenger hunt across the country to Austin, TX, ending at South by Southwest (SXSW), a big interactive, film, and music conference.
Last year, Team Detroit won the challenge. This year, there are two teams from Detroit, but ours is the only one that matters. We’re planning on taking home the gold. My teammates are Jacki Halas, Kyle Stuef, and Nikki Stephan. We are all in it to win it.
At any rate, our first challenge is to creatively raise money for charity. The charity is Adopt-a-Classroom, which is something I can get behind, having two kids in public schools that are somewhat underfunded. As many Icrontians know, I am no stranger to creatively raising money for charity, so this challenge was right up my alley.
We decided on a variation of the classic “I’ll eat anything” theme for this one. So on Saturday, February 12th, we’ll be up at Rosie O’Grady’s in Ferndale, MI for our “Eat-a-Thon”. The idea is: you bring or order something horrid, hot, or crazy. We’ll eat it if you donate to Adopt-a-Classroom. That’s it. As long as it’s classed as “food” and won’t kill us, we’ll put it in our mouths. Ghost Peppers? Bring it. Balut? Quack Quack. Casu Marzu? If you want to illegally import it, it’s going in my mouth. Shudder.
If you aren’t local or can’t make it, we always appreciate donations through our website via our Chip-in widget.
Wish me luck! I’m sure there will be lots of pics and video of me eating something horrible.
