The Walking Dead adventure game from Telltale continues on today.
If you’ve been following along with your subscription to The Walking Dead, you need to open up the game again today because the new episode has dropped. It’s time to figure out what will happen to your intrepid zombie survivalists as they are forced to leave their hotel home behind and venture out in search of new shelter.
Telltale has released this new trailer showing off some melodrama, betrayal, and trains. Trains and zombies sounds like a pretty good combination to me. Of course, portions of this trailer may not apply to you, as some of these characters may or may not still be alive in your own version of the story:
Additionally, the small studio, know mostly for its adventure games, announced that their initial release of The Walking Dead, the first episode of the current arc, has been nominated for a Golden Joystick Award in the category of Best Downloadable Game. Personally, I don’t agree with treating ‘Downloadable’ like a genre or media in and of itself, but I suppose it’s still an accomplishment, and I wish them luck.
If you haven’t heard already, The Walking Dead is a great adventure game. The story is compelling, the characters interesting, the controls are easy, and the branching nature of the narrative elements are nearly revolutionary. The title belies its meager genre, as the bulk of the game is in dialog and action choices rather than click puzzles or dexterity challenges, making it a true interactive narrative, rather than just an ‘adventure game’. The choices you make aren’t about survival, they’re about alliances and priorities. You cannot die, as actual failure just jumps back the story a few seconds, but you can alienate your allies and/or get your friends killed, which is more dramatic.
