TSMC boosts 40nm yields

After prior word that chamber matching issues in TSMC’s 40nm process were hampering GPU production, TSMC SVP of Operations Mark Liu said yesterday the issue has been resolved. Continuing, Liu stated that the quality of TSMC’s 40nm process is now roughly on par with that of their 65nm technique.

This is nothing but good news for Radeon HD 5000 and GF100 hopefuls, as both architectures are built on the Taiwanese semi firm’s 40nm node. Improving the quality of the company’s 40nm process will not only raise stocks of hard-to-find cards like the HD 5870, but it may even help to lower prices which have trickled upwards through scarce supply and, undoubtedly, a dearth of competition.
