Ubisoft announces Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2

Today Ubisoft announced the sequel to their modern, arcade air combat simulator Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. Being developed by Ubisoft Bucharest, H.A.W.X. 2 will be bringing even more hi-tech weaponry and gadgetry to the same arcade-style air combat from the first game. The press release makes copious mention of the upgraded aircraft and pew pew. From Ubisoft:

HAWX is an elite military squadron performing black ops and surgical interventions on behalf of the United States government. HAWX pilots are elite professionals and they have access to the top equipment and aircraft available, ranging from mainstays like the A-10 Thunderbolt II or the F-16C Fighting Falcon to the cutting edge F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. They also have access to more specialized equipment, like surveillance UAVs or the AC-130U Spooky gunship.

In H.A.W.X. 2, the player will switch between controlling three pilots: An American, a Brit, and  Russian. The story revolves around a (surprise!) insurgency in the Middle East in the near future.

Besides aircraft, H.A.W.X. 2 brings a few other new features to the table including precision weaponry that can be controlled by the player and UAVs. In addition, Ubisoft has worked closely with GeoEye to make the environment mapped to the real world in the most realistic way possible. The game environments are 130km square, and are accurate to the real world. New graphic features include more accurate damage modeling—if you shatter an enemy’s canopy, you’ll see it.

There will be support for 8-player multiplayer, and the release date is set as Fall 2010 for PC, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

The Icrontic Viewpoint

Brian Ambrozy: I loved H.A.W.X. Loved it. It was slightly campy and terribly fun, and grabbing a flightstick and flying around a real-looking world firing missiles at stuff is a childhood dream fulfilled. All they have to do with H.A.W.X. 2 is make it more of the same and it would be fine in my book. This one sounds like a winner.

Robert Hallock: I just want to mention that the second time I ever played it, I played it in Vegas in an AMD booth just to do a barrel roll. Carry on.

  1. liquience
liquience I too was a big fan of the first game. Campy and awesome. I really enjoyed how the game handled as well. Frankly for my air combat games I prefer them a bit on the arcade-y side.
  2. TurboPenguin
TurboPenguin It was a great game for Single Player but the bugs and problems with it plagued it from day one. There are still bugs in HAWX that are unresolved. I think ill save my hard earned money and pass on this game...
  3. Obsidian
Obsidian I wish they would up it to 8 vs 8. Large scale dogfights would be epic.
