The USB Implementers Forum began the SuperSpeed USB Developers Conference yesterday with the official unveiling of the complete USB 3.0 specification.
While retaining backwards compatibility with the current ecosystem of USB devices, the new specification will rocket along at a whopping 5Gbit/s. The new performance is owed to an optical interconnect recessed behind the traditional USB interface.
Though devices carrying a USB 3.0 interface are not expected until 2010, it is believed that high-end motherboards and camcorders will be amongst the first to feature the new interface.
