Verizon’s HTC Incredible: The complete scoop

UPDATE (14 April, 2010): Verizon Wireless has announced that the HTC Droid Incredible will hit retail on April 29. The company will soon be accepting pre-orders.

It has been known for some time that Verizon and HTC were conspiring to develop and launch a CDMA Android handset packing all the heat of the Nexus One and more; in February, we knew that handset to be the HTC Incredible. As of today, we not only know that it will be going to retail as the HTC Droid Incredible by Verizon, but we also know the complete list of specifications.

Shown right, the HTC Incredible offers a 3.7″ AMOLED display with a WVGA resolution of 480×800. Dimensions for the phone are 4.63″ tall, 2.3″ wide and 0.47″ thick, smaller than the Nexus One in all dimensions save thickness, where it’s 0.02″ beefier.

On the subject of hardware, the Incredible continues to deliver with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM (320MB free), 8GB onboard storage and a microSDHC slot for up to 32GB of additional space. The handset also offers 802.11b/g/n (an industry first), an 8MP camera with LED flash, A-GPS and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Trackball haters will also be pleased to learn that the trackpad is optical.

Moving to software, the Incredible will hit the shelves with the complete Android 2.1 application stack and unfettered access to the Android app store. Further, prior videos of the Incredible have confirmed that the handset will run the newest version of HTC’s lauded Sense UI. The move to include Sense forces HTC and Verizon to drop the “Google Experience” honorific, but that’s an immaterial decision given the drastic improvements Sense makes to an otherwise bog standard Android install. As a final note on the software, Adobe Flash Lite 4.0 is supported out of the box, while Adobe Flash 10.1 should follow when the binaries exit beta.

The expected retail launch date of the HTC Incredible by Verizon Wireless is April 29, and prices were not available at press time.
