VIA adds x86 Android support

VIA's Android supporting EITX-3002

VIA today announced official Android support for their range of x86 embedded products, starting with the EITX-3002 motherboard.

It’s clear that VIA are hoping the addition of Android support will stimulate uptake of their embedded boards with its proven multimedia credentials and cost advantage over the Windows Embedded family. This move also places Android’s existing apps/resources on a platform with some serious CPU grunt, a plethora of I/O ports and VIA’s new Smart Embedded Tool Kit, enabling the simple monitoring/control of peripherals. The EITX-3002 itself is solid performer, an Em-ITX design (industrial form factor between Mini and Nano ITX in size). It’s powered by either a 1.2GHz Nano X2 or 1GHz Eden X2 CPU with a VX900H media system processor on the graphics front and runs silently in a fanless configuration.

Those curious among you can take a look at the video below to see Android in action on one.
