PSN gifts for service restoration

To welcome PSN users back to the service and by way of trying to make things right, Sony has detailed their “welcome back” consolation prizes for PSN users. From the PlayStation Blog:

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

In all, it’s not a bad gift. For those of us who own both PS3 and PSP, four free games is not a bad way to say “we’re sorry for screwing up so badly.”

In addition, a few more perks:

  • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
  • Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
  • To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

Truth be told, I’d give it all up if Sony would instead repair my original 20gb PS3 “Fat” for free (I got the Yellow Light of Death yesterday when I turned it back on to update it)…

The gifts will be available as soon as PSN store service is fully restored (no date on that yet).

  1. Thrax
Thrax Honestly? Not bad for an apology. Some of those games are pretty good.
  2. Garg
Garg Not bad. If they left George Hotz alone, I'd even buy a PS3.
  3. UPSLynx
UPSLynx Holy crap. Little Big Planet and Wipeout, here I come.
  4. CrazyJoe
CrazyJoe I updated my PSP and I'll try out Little Big Planet (and probably ModNation Racers) on the PSP... Should be good for the plane ride to Epic...
  5. Snarkasm
Snarkasm Props to Sony, that's a pretty cool response. Already have LBP (for PS3 and PSP) and inFamous, though (and I'd think many do). Anybody have recommendations on which two of the others in each category are worth getting?

I've seen a breakdown on retail price and I don't really care about getting the best 'value' or screwing Sony, just looking for fun. :)
  6. CrazyJoe
CrazyJoe I would also like suggestions for anyone who have played any of the PSP games...
  7. Bandrik
Bandrik For those that like shoot-em-ups, I cannot recommend Super Stardust HD enough. The game is freaking awesome, has a great soundtrack, and looks gorgeous.

Wipeout HD is also a fantastic choice. Looks great, good soundtrack, smooth-as-butter futuristic racing, and plenty to unlock and do.
  8. Shorty
Shorty I am looking at Infamous and Dead Nation. Both I have fancied buying. We already have LBP and the others.

Not bad for free for a free service. I am actually more interested in the identity protection scheme. That seems more valuable to me.
  9. primesuspect
primesuspect Second the Super Stardust HD recommendation. That game rules.
  10. RootWyrm
RootWyrm PSN is down again on the 18th. Why? I've obtained and transcribed the latest Sony Playstation commercial featuring Kevin Butler which has the answer!

    Joe, Concerned PSN User:
Dear Sony. I'm really worried about the recent spate of security breaches. What are you doing to fix this and make it safe to play online again?
Kevin Butler, VP of Securing Networks from Anonymous^WAPT^WBAD MEN ON THE INTERNETS:
Well first we take everything OFFLINE because let's be honest. Who the hell plays games online these days? Losers, that's who! Then, when we bring it back up, you have to reset your username AND password using really obscure information like your email address and your birthday! NOBODY would have those two things! And to save you time, we just let you enter all your new information in your browser, and take you STRAIGHT to the goods so you can put that new credit card number in right away!
But don't worry! IF you didn't cancel that old credit card? It's in there too. It's all good! So come on down, we got this shit on lock down, beyotch.
    EDITOR:
uh, hey guys? turns out just about anybody with facebook has their friends email and birthday
    Kevin Butler, VP of FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF:
... fuck this, you idiots are on your own now.
  11. UPSLynx
    UPSLynx So, um..

these are available now. Today I tried to grab my games through the PS store. I clicked add to cart for each one so I could download all items at once.

When I checked my cart, it was empty. The icon to click on to redeem the games were removed, as I had already clicked on them.

...so now what? Anyone else have issues redeeming?

The good news is that you are certainly not alone. Sony knows of this. Start by reading this.
