Wii owners get Netflix streaming

Nintendo has announced today that the Netflix on-demand movie service is now available for the Wii.

Like the PS3, the Wii’s streaming service will require a disc inserted in the system to access Netflix’s on-demand options.

With this new offer, the Wii also becomes the lowest-cost entry to streaming video of the three major consoles. Anybody with a monthly Netflix plan of $8.99 (or higher) has access to the new option, and the console runs for $199 or less, which has endeared it to consumers everywhere.

The Wii Netflix service does, however, have two downsides: the disc is required for streaming service and, since the Wii doesn’t have high-definition capabilities, you’re out of luck if you’re looking for HD lovin’.

Interested parties can visit netflix.com/wii to order a disc, shipped first class for free.

Zuntar I love the Wii but this still ticks me off.

Next generation Wii will probably be an HD (720p, likely) console.

Snarkasm Overall, it still looks like the 360 has the best of all worlds. The Arcade model goes for the same $199 as the Wii, doesn't require a disc, and plays HD feeds. One box to rule them all...?

AlexDeGruven But you need XBL Gold to use Netflix. Wii and BluRay players that support it don't need an additional subscription on top of the Netflix to do it.

Garg Or you could take the extra computer/laptop that many of us have and hook it up to your TV.

Snarkasm I was referring to consoles only, but you're right, I forgot about the XBL Gold requirement. Good call.
