Taking a cue from some other game, EA announced today that there will be a “Community Challenge” in their upcoming Battlefield 1943: When 43 million kills are racked up globally, a new map called Coral Sea will become unlocked for everyone.
This brings up an interesting mechanic that I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of; as game systems and games themselves become more and more connected, doing “world events” like this equate to a brilliant marketing move. Friends will recruit friends to buy the game to help out with the effort, and rewarding every single player is sure to increase goodwill.
