World of Warcraft: Noobcamp

World of Warcraft: Noobcamp

There we were, gathered around the kitchen island at ICHQ. A project with a massive scope began as a simple conversation that started at midnight and ended at eight in the morning when the sane world was getting ready for their day.  Yes, this is it—the World of Warcraft Bootcamp Project: Noobcamp. In Noobcamp, our local Icrontic WoW players will learn everything Blizzard doesn’t teach you about The Game (you all just lost) at level 80.

I will take a group of Noobs, Bads, Terribads, and “Inexperienced Players”, up to the highest level of play available to most socially active, experienced level 80 players who don’t want to raid more than a few days a week: 10 man raid content.

Over the next few months, they will be transformed from their current, formative state into a competent raiding force the likes of which you may have seen somewhere in the middle of your server’s progression thread.

Players involved are encouraged to make their own gearing/spec decisions leading up to Phase 2 of Noobcamp, however all involved players may be asked to make changes as necessary to improve effectiveness in a raid setting at any point thereafter. Such changes could be as small as redistributing a few talent points, or as big as re-gemming/enchanting your gear and changing your spec (but not necessarily your role).

The schedule for this little experiment will be as follows:

  • Phase 1: week of Feb. 15th – I will lead the group into Naxxramas, using only their old-content-trivializing badge gear, to attempt a series of achievements through which I will gain an understanding of their capabilities.  Following this week, the group will be allowed to participate in raid instances that we will not be attempting as a guild at their own discretion.
  • Phase 2: week of Feb. 22nd – I will evaluate each and every person’s spec, gear, glyphs, enchants, gems, and performance to create a profile for each of them, which will be posted for all to enjoy.  Also, I will lead the group into Trial of the Crusader 10 for the first time this week.  Leading up to Phase 3, raid statistics will be posted along with footage from our actual raids.
  • Phase 3: week of Mar. 15th – Each week from here forward I will provide updates on progress with statistics, gear awards, and announce the MVP of the week.  Also starting this week, we will attempt to PUG several 25 man raid instances as a group weekly.

Our path of progression will begin with ToC10, move to ToGC10, and then finally end up at ICC10.  Hard Modes will be the goal, but clearing will be our first priority.  Throughout this whole process, a 3rd party will be periodically conducting interviews with members of the group to provide feedback and perspective into the life of a up-and-coming raider.

You are not prepared–no really, you aren’t.  All participants must gear themselves with the best gear available through Emblems and Heroic Dungeons only.

Get ready, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
