WoW: Cataclysm gets a release date

Blizzard, Blizzard, Blizzard. Oh, how much we love to hate you sometimes—this time, however, we love you even more. Blizzard has officially announced a release date for World of Warcraft: Cataclsym. It is really good to see Blizzard making an official announcement, but it does seems a bit strange that they will do it just weeks before their annual Blizzcon event.

The press release:

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announces that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the highly anticipated third expansion for the world’s most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7 and Macintosh at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector’s Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.

“Cataclysm includes the best content we’ve ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a re-creation of the much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With the help of our beta testers, we’re putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months.”

I wonder what Blizzard has cooked up if this was not the major announcement for this year’s Blizzcon. Maybe a Diablo III release date? Or maybe a new IP? I don’t think so, but in any case World of Warcraft players around the globe are rejoicing that the new expansion is coming sooner rather than later.

Icrontic has a strong raiding guild, and we’re planning on starting a new Alliance guild on Kel’Thuzad. If you’re interested in joining on the ground floor for the new expansion, make sure to register and post your interest in our WoW forum.

This just in, breaking new. Blizzard adds Minecraft mod for their ever-popular online game, World of Warcraft. However, gamers everywhere are outraged as all Blizzard really did was add 110% more lava and tried to pass it off as World of Minecraft.

A patch to add 250-foot giant cobblestone dick statues has been announced in an attempt to appease fans. Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard Rob Pardo had this to say: "We have found that Minecraft players seem to be obsessed with large phallic structures. Who are we to disappoint our fan base?" While the demand for the new patch may be high, its release is currently unknown and may not be out until 2014, leaving fans everywhere dickless and depressed.

Paladin677 The only person I know right now who plays the beta says it is still buggy as hell. I hope Activision isn't pushing Blizzard to releasing an unpolished product for the XMas buying season. As if that even makes sense for that game. I mean do you ever hear a crack dealer going "Man, we gotta get more product out for the holiday buying season."
  11. Chooch
Chooch It is still buggy at the moment. I hope they fixed the issues before release date. But knowing Activision, I would not be surprised if they would pull that stunt.

Thrax All of Blizzard's expansions have been very buggy within 30-60 days of launch. I wouldn't sweat it.

    Tim Only $40? I thought it'd cost $60. That's ok though.
