Xbox brings the news

Xbox Press just released a list of new schwag coming out in the next month or so, detailing new Arcade action, game downloadables, and new entrants into the Games on Demand fold, and to start, they announced a global multiplayer beta unlock event for the new Halo: Reach. People owning a Halo 3: ODST game disc will be able to play in the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta for free, even including XBox Live Silver members, who will also get to play Halo 3 multiplayer online during the event. It all ranges from 9am PST on May 14th to 9am PST on May 17th.

XBL Arcade announces several new games coming to the service, highlighted by the deal of the week, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. The hand-drawn romp features all the voicing from the original Monkey Island franchise and a live-instrument musical score. It’s running for 400 MS points and comes out May 17th. Zeno Clash Ultimate Edition, RayStorm HD, Rocket Knight, and Snoopy Flying Ace round out the lineup.

In the world of DLC, it’s a whole lot of silly, but the Dragon Age: Origins Darkspawn Chronicles content legitimizes it a bit. The update extends the experience of being a Grey Warden, a guardian during a time of unrest when the darkspawn return to throw the kingdom into chaos. The expansion doesn’t promise any estimates of content length, but it’ll hit on May 18th for 400 MS points. Other DLC of note is a new card expansion pack for Magic: The Gathering—Duels of the Planeswalkers. 8 new campaign levels, three new cards for each deck you own, and Nicol Bolas’ Eons of Evil deck all crop up in the update, along with four new co-op levels, five new challenges, and three achievements worth 50 points. The date on this one is Spring 2010, so… who knows.

Guess what? The rest of the DLC is crap. Music game updates, new cars, and new clothes. Woo.

As for Games on Demand, MS is adding 5 new ones to the service, and they’ve all got a decidedly war-like bent. Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway comes out on the 4th along with Prince of Persia. Tom Clancy’s EndWar debuts on the 11th. Command and Conquer 3 releases on the 18th. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat escapes on the 25th. Good luck getting through this one unscathed.

Bandrik Biggest gem that I see here is RayStorm HD. I've heard of it but never gave it a shot. I love side-scrolling shoot-em-ups, so I'll certainly be giving this one a go!
