While the HD-DVD standard is doing well in the EU, the United States is still puttering along with the Blu-Ray camp because Americans like shiny advertisement blitzes. As a response, Microsoft has reduced the price of their HD-DVD player for August and September to $179 (A $20 discount), and is providing free movies with the purchase as well.
