Yahoo! releases the top 10 search items for 2009

Yahoo! has released an annual list of the popular Internet portal’s most-searched items for 2009. A close examination of the combined list reveals how celebrity-obsessed and shallow the Internet generation is.

Britney Spears made the list for the umpteenth year in a row, and she didn’t even have to suffer a nervous breakdown or endanger her child to do it! Speaking of child endangerment, Michael Jackson makes the list at number one, beating out Internet “superstars” like Kim “who?” Kardashian and Megan “Well, at least I’m not ugly” Fox.

Entertainment highlights include World Wrestling Entertainment and–drum roll, please–NASCAR. Other luminaries include the mediocrity-tempering Naruto at number six, and popular MMO Runescape at number 10.

Does anyone else notice the war in the Middle East, the healthcare crisis, or the collapsing economy? Apparently Yahoo! users don’t want to be bothered with it.
