YouTube now in 1080p

YouTube announced today on their blog that starting next week, viewers will be able to peruse HD videos in 1080p.

The site will offer the option to choose 1080p or 720p when using high definition. Google also assured users that videos that have already been up loaded in 1080p will be re-encoded for next week as well.

This announcement will compliment those hoping to use YouTube for HD televisions with services like Boxee, which just released information about the upcoming “Boxee Box,” a computer that comes pre-loaded with everything you’d need for a Boxee-centered home entertainment system.

For a look at what 1080p will do for YouTube video quality, Google has published a blog update which explores the topic.
