ANOTHER ghetto cooler
My laptop has a 2.4A P4 (512k/400MHz FSB), and it runs a tib hotter than I'd like, even after the mods I've already done (lapping the heatsink & cpu, swapping thermal pad for Arctic Silver Ceramique). So, I bodged together a somewhat better solution.
======= PARTS =======
Laptop "stand"
1x Thermalright SLK-800A
1x Thermalright SLK-800
Heatsinks
2x AMD/Ajigo 2500+ retail HSFs, lapped
1x Thermalright AX-7, lapped
1x very large aluminum extrusion
Fans
1x Sunon KD1208PTB2-6 39CFM 80mm
2x AMD/Delta 60x13mm ~18cfm
1x Sunon 120mm blower (40-odd CFM)
1x Generic 80mm 30-odd CFM
Other stuff
1x 350w Enermax ATX PSU
1x 12v/4a Peltier element
2x 6v/5.6a Peltier elements, in series
1x Zalman fan controller on the blower (it's probably screaming in agony; it's rated 6w, the blower is 14)
Thermal compound
======= Assembly =======
The 3 peltiers are sandwiched between the CPU heatsinks and the aluminum 'sink. The cold sides are on the aluminum, the hot sides are cooled by the CPU HSFs. The blower blows air through the aluminum 'sink and across the bottom of the laptop. The generic 80mm fan is cooling the Zalman fan controller. The PSU is powering it all (duh)

Since SOMEONE *cough*VoE*cough* has been bitching about how I need to clean the keyboard...
The keys are translucent. That's not dirt, it's the mechanism under the keys.

All this ghetto cooling and your not ghetto enough to tape a thermometer in there? PFFFFT @ YOU!

In addition to the car I drive, I have a parts car. Said parts car has a radiator and an a/c condenser. I have no use for either on my car. However, I took both of them off the parts car, and cleaned them up, and they're currently under a tarp in the side yard. I can't go water until I go to college, but when I do, one or the other of them will probably end up being the radiator I use.
They're both about the same size- around 24"x18"- and the radiator will cool a 238HP V8 (290 in the european version) and its transmission. It SHOULD cool a computer.
In this area, it used to be called "N
Rigged / Rigging".
But no one says that kind of stuff anymore, do they?

Then I took my old Globalwin 80mm fan and attached it to the case with cable ties.
Now it can blow cool air directly on the drives.
And the best thing is that you cannot see it when all the front covers are in place.
I will connect it to 7 or 5V no need to blow the drives out of the case.
I will post some pics later on.
