How can I get rid of this??!!

I was bombarded yesterday with a bunch of popups and of course they downloaded (grrr...). I've run Ad-Aware 6, Spybot S&D, CWShredder, and have had to still remove things manually to get rid of this garbage. But I'm still having problems. Pop ups abound. Here's my log. BTW, I no longer run Realjukebox and Yahoo messenger (they've been removed) why are they still in the log? Same thing with the www.auctionworks.com line. Any help will be appreciated! - Becky

you want to get rid of the following, remember to boot into safe mode first and to make sure to get rid of the referenced files after removing their startup entries, this is a pretty major infestation so you might have to do a couple of passes to completely eliminate everything, please post an updated log when youre done.

as for these, removing them might break the related applications, if you use them regularly you should keep them, if not, toast the lot.

My knowledge is very limited. Don't pour liquids into keyboards, beware the blue screen of death and the undo button is our friend.

Computer is running great, thanks for your help! I have a few follow up questions though (don't know if they belong here, but don't know where they'd go).

How can I get PGate Basic off my add/remove programs list?

On my My Computer screen I have a folder with no name that can't be clicked on or deleted. I think it's showed up in the last few months. What is it and do I need it?

Same screen, I have a file marked Allaire FTP & RDS. What's that? There's no properties upon right click, just open, explore and create shortcut.

Hope I don't sound like too much of a dumb chick, I was smart enough to find my way here! ;D

That puts you ahead of many people. :)

Try this. They'll nag you to pay, but will let you remove up to seven duds before they make you.

On my My Computer screen I have a folder with no name that can't be clicked on or deleted. I think it's showed up in the last few months. What is it and do I need it?
Try deleting it in safe mode. If that doesn't work, try making a new folder (name it whatever you wish) and dragging the weird unknown folder into it, then delete the folder you made which now has the miscreant in it.

Same screen, I have a file marked Allaire FTP & RDS. What's that? There's no properties upon right click, just open, explore and create shortcut.
That appears to be part of ColdFusion. Some info can be found here. Do you remotely administer a website? If not, I would rename the extension and see if it causes you problems. If after a few days you haven't had any trouble (and you're certain it is not something you might use) you can delete it.

Hope I don't sound like too much of a dumb chick, I was smart enough to find my way here! ;D
I would say that that fact alone puts you in some pretty good company.

    My knowledge is very limited

Just remember... we all started somewhere. In my case it was with a dual 500MHz Pentium III system running Windows 98. Which is all well and good... with one minor problem... Windows 98 only uses 1 CPU, regardless of how many you have in your system.

Stick around and you'll learn a lot :) Just be careful- you may end up building your own computer (or ten... ;))

One more item you may wish to check is this one:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"

This is not a normal Windows program, and my references show it as part of a program called "PeopleOnPage." If you are not knowingly running that program, you may want to delete this entry, as it is slowing down your boot up.

Welcome to Short-Media, by the way. Please take a moment to check out the links in my signature, and learn about our community cause: Folding for a Cure.
