    Great ideas, Jane!

BTW: Nice avatar - you need an official S-M Folding Signature to round things out. :)

Prime has hit it right on the head. We need to be fairly aggressive in asking people to join us when we fix their spyware filled machines.

The more research I do to learn how to combat spyware, the more I run into links to SM articles (on google). This is our goldmine. It never hurts to ask people to help us. I'm even going to start asking people in the replies to spyware problems I answer.

K, I've had to put my second machine up for sale as I'll be needing the cash to tide me over til my EI kicks in. I'll also be losing my old workstation at the office (Soon as they figure out that the lil red icon isn't critical to operating the computer..) and I've already lost the server. So soon, I'll be down to one machine. I'm confident the situation will get better in the coming months, just right now.. things don't look so hot.

True, we don't promote the Folding aspect enough. When I first accessed this site, it was to learn about flashing video cards.. Hey! Free tutorials to improve your computer!.. DC wasn't something I was familiar with and I believe that applies to most newbies. When I looked at the sigs referring to "Folding", I was intrigued but at the same time .. intimidated, it looked a bit "clannish". To remove some of the mystery, we should have a banner.. "Interested in Folding for Short-Media!?" and link it to a section that explains what Folding and Distributed Computing is.

As a new member, no one has even ventured to ask me if I would be interested in joining the folding effort. I don't take it personally and perhaps it's because I'm a SETI guy.

My point is, if this is a big promotional item for SM, then it might make sense to make an attempt to get more new members folding.

I'm not saying take a pushy used car salesmen approach with new members but just include something about SM's folding effort when new members are greeted.

    Just my two cents....

    Sorry...that was not the intent.

I think some do ask right away, but I also think I saw where it was thought to not be a good idea as it could run somebody off before they get to know the community here.

I wasn't asked to fold. I showed a little bit of interest it and was practically forced to. ;D

I got up over 5000 for the first time last week and I've got another CPU on the way. Just gotta mate it with a new NFII board and I should be cooking another 750 PPW. I'm also building 2 computers for customers which will remain at my place for 2 weeks while they're away to "burn in" heh. They paid up front in cash too ^^.

SM17 almost broke 600 but couldn't quite make it. If the damn power would stay on she'd hit 600 I'm sure as long as she gets a couple nice tinkers.

I think Keebler says something about FAH when he greets all the new members.
