Ok, I am using Black Ice firewall and Norton AV 2004. XP Pro firewall diabled.
With both Black Ice and Norton disabled for some reason zip files are coming across with out any files.

I have a second computer with XP Pro on the same network and they DNL fine to that machine.

Where / what should I look for to fix this?

Thanks,

Are you opening them direct rather than saving them to your HD? I've noticed that sometimes when I open ZIPs direct (in IE), they're empty, but when I save them they're fine. I've never had the problem in Mozilla, so I'm guessing you're using IE?

Why the hell would you open the zip in ie in the first place? Why not just save it to the hard drive?

Yea, lol I am DNL'ing them directly to the HD then extracting them...

Yes, IE but what does that have to do with it? I have IE on the other rig and its just fine...

because you are too lazy to double click on the file when it has downloaded.

See if Black Ice is blocking ports 20, 21, 47, and\or 115 and\or 8080-- IF this is a normal FTP transaction. Also, see if port 8080 is open. Some sites that use Trivial FTP tunnel a port 20 (upward and converstion interchange for control signals) and 21 (data flow, for actual files) based conversation inside a port 8080 connect, especially those that use IE. Same site, when it sees Mozilla as browser can use pure FTP instead.

Do both boxes have Black ICE on them??? If one does not, probably is what ports are closed in Black Ice. If boht have Black Ice, check your setups against each ohter. Probable port block in Black Ice unless it si just one file, in that case, NAV might be blocking a virused file from being downloaded except when it is off.

Ports 47 and 115 are sometimes used for FTP protocols that are done with software, not likely they would work in IE at all or not reliably even if tunneled inside port 8080 connect.

I do not run BI because I have more control with Sygate and I have had problems with Black Ice many times.

Whats the best way to figure out what ports are being blocked, although I know that for the most part its blocking them all except for the port for the internet...

Also I tried it with out the AV and BI services running and I got the same results.

Weird thing is that as far as I know its only from a certian site and its only certian files... And I can DNL the main file but not the add on files...

Note: I do have a full paid membership to the site, the site is the VB site...

To find out remotely about what might have gone wrong for just one site, have the webmaster for teh site check his\her download logs for your account, and see if he has errors on his end. To find out about BI, I would talk to tech support or look on the Black Ice site and see how to tell BI to leave certain ports open. I can do this with Sygate and Tiny Personal Firewall, adn the logs tell me what ports are being bliocked and WHEN with local computer times for blocks. So, you might try to figure out how to look in BI's log also and see if any of those numbers show up as being blocked for port, either as TCP or as UDP (some folks with download areas use a mix of UDP and TCP, adn soem of them also have areas that are private and kept out of dow2nload access, so you might ask the webmaster there is these files are blocked if you cannot find any blocked ports with numbers I gave in the logs for BI).
