Oh & also my computer randomly sometimes just restarts on its own! & just freezes up sometimes. Is there anything on that list that would cause it to do this? Cheers :)

Hi, devi1, welcome to Short-Media. You've got other spyware on your machine besides Omegasearch. Before we take care of Omegasearch, please run Ad-Aware and Spybot. Instructions for using both can be found here.

After running both, post a fresh log and we'll get rid of what remains.
  • edited June 2004
Thanks Mr. Kwitko, I like your avatar  lol

I have ad-aware 6 but it keeps makeing my system crash when its scanning :banghead:

I've not tried spybot before, I downloaded it & that too crashed whilst trying to remove the spyware found :(

What do u think is wrong?

The spyware could be making it do so. Try running them in safe mode. Reboot and press F8 before the windows logo comes up to get into safe mode.

Your hardware may be unstable but before we try going that route we can make sure its not the spyware thats causing your computer to crash. I see somethings in the log that are bad but I am going to leave it up to the experts to help you out.

    Welcome to the Forums, Khalia.

What do u see that is bad? what should I delete then?

Before cleaning, download LSP-Fix from our Security Downloads page. You might need it to fix the New.net winsock hijack.

Boot into safe mode and delete the following:

Are you getting an error message when Ad-Aware crashes?
  • edited June 2004
Your computer does indeed sound unstable. The automatic random restarting, thats probably power related. Make sure you have a wall outlet dedicated primely to your computer. If you got a UPC back-up, GREAT! power surge strip outlets, those work too, but just one wall outlet dedicated to your computer. As for things like rechargers and stuff, tell'em to take a hike somewhere else.......unless you need it, like a modem power cable and such. Remember, stuff for your computer and your computer itself. (Just saying to do this to be on the safe side.).

This happened to my computer, the power cables kept falling out of the sockets and I had other crap plugged in actively doing things with other products. Also, if you have too many things sharing an outlet: example:

All wall outlets are normally 2 plugs able.
-You can extend the resourcefulness of these outlets by hooking up 6 strip outlet extensions or with an extension cord allowing three extra plugs.

Lets say you have a 6-strip outlet with the PC, MP3 recharger, Cable/DSL modem, Air conditioner (air conditioner is in the window directly above your computer desk area) Your computer sound system, and a Lamp. The mp3 player is recharging the mp3 player. As for your computer monitor, it's isolated into the second plug on the wall, not in the strip.

You have the recharger recharging your mp3 player, the lamp is on, the computer it on, sound system is always on, and your monitor is on. Once you flick on your air conditioner, a surge rushes through. Air conditioners are POWERFUL. They require lots of energy to run. They will literally drain your outlet of the power for a short time. During this, all other products lose power temporarily. But soon, they are able to make connections once again.

TV sets, Stereo systems, Even Electric cooking appliances are in the same baseball field as an air conditioner.

It's alot, but it's useful. Happened to me. When I took off the air conditioner at my home, things ran more normally, my computer stopped restarting and things stopped resetting.

If this is at all not the case, disregard my post. It's just a possibilty.

Thanks for your suggestion JGK150 :) I do have an extension cord but that is not where the problem lies. My comp doesnt restart/freeze-up all the time, its just sometimes & when it does its usually 5-10 mins after I boot up, if after 10 mins it hasnt restarted/frozen-up then it will be ok for hours!

Mr. Kwitko no error message, it just stops randomly when checking through the DLL's. It just freezes but egg-timer is goin round I have left it for 15 mins but it doesnt move so I just close it through task manager.

Sounds like you've got hardware problems. Could be RAM, bad PSU, or hard drive. First, run Memtest86 to check your RAM, and we'll go from there.

Eww, the blue screen of death. Definately system related. I have little experience when that happens, 'fraid I can't help :(

Make a bootable floppy and copy the memtest files to it. Boot from the floppy, run the .exe file, and run the test. Thorough with defaults is best. I usually run it overnight so it will do multiple passes.

    Good Luck! :)

    Correction:

The exe that you download creates a bootable floppy for you. You boot off that floppy and let it run the memory test until you see "PASS: 1", which can take from 20 minutes to several hours, depending on your system. If it gets to 1 full pass with zero errors, your memory is good. If you see ANY error, you need to test each individual stick of ram (if you have more than one) to see which is bad. If it's bad, there's no repairing it, you need to replace it.

We'll see what Memtest does (I would do that with an unstable box myself), but I am starting to think reseating the RAM sticks twice or three times to clean contacts might also be in order if it shows random errors.

I had a computer that gradually got into the random reboot thing, then hung repeatedly, and finally would not even post come in last week. Um, reseated video card 3X with computer off, reseated RAM ditto, pulled modem out, cleaned out CPU HS which had dust in open spaces between HS fins, computer booted (course it checked its HD, that is normal after that kind of hang recovery). Shut down Win98SE, stuck modem back in. Computer went right online when told to, and behaves fine now.... After a year or so, dust can get in sockets, slots, etc, things go wonky. Air can (especially clean CPU HS, blow out in open spaces between fins) and reseating things, maybe some contact cleaner if grunge looks real bad on card edges, things work better quite often.

How old is this computer??? And can you tell us what hardware is in it, CPU, etc.???

Acetone works perfectly for cleaning electrical contacts, leaves no film, and will not harm PCB board material.

John, I've no doubt about what you're saying; I'm just a big fan of acetone for cleaining computer parts such as contacts, heatsinks, and CPUs.

I'll run it overnight, partly to eliminate heat issues affecting RAM performance, but single full pass is good quick validate, right Prime.

The cleaner I use is normally Zylene or a Radio Shacky kind of thing, which is mostly a couple Dipropylene ethers and hydrotreated heavy Naptha-- aerosol can with brush on output nozzle of can for heavy grunge. I keep a pint of Acetone around, though, also-- for lighter cleaning. And a container of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, for removing HS compound. And a gallon of specially distilled water, but that is another story involving recovering O\S CDs (oops, will talk about that in anothr thread, sorry :D ).... Your basic cleaner kit....

My fault - I started steering us off course.

Deve1, hang in there, we're still with you.

Click this, unzip the file, and run "install.bat".. It will ask you for a blank floppy. Put the floppy in the drive, say "ok" or whatever, and it will make a memtest disk. Keep the floppy in the drive, and reset the computer :)
