Ok, well here's a site with a diagram of the 20 pin atx connector:
    http://xtronics.com/reference/atx_pinout.htm

First, unplug EVERYTHING from the power supply.

Now, assuming your power supply uses standard wire colors (which it should), connect the green wire to one of the black wires (doesn't matter which one) and the gray wire to a red wire. Double check that with the diagram above; pin 14 should be connected to one of the black wires, and pin 8 should be connected to one of the red wires.

Once those are connected, plug the ac back in and turn flip the switch on the back of the power supply (if it has one) to "on". If it comes on for a second and then turns off, unplug it or flip the switch on the back to "off", remove the wire connecting the green and black wires, and flip it back to "on". THEN put the wire back between the green and black wires, and once it turns in, take the wire off again. If the power supply still doesn't work, it's dead.

I tried the wire bit and IT WORKED !!!!!!!!!! All 4 fans worked and the lights inside !!!!! I guess that means that the PSU is ok and now have to look at the board cpu and or RAM... THANKS FOR THE INFO !!!!!! Hardest part was the connecter inside was small, and I had troubled getting wires secure.

WOW you sure helped me !!!! Everyone my problem was because I am using a old Case, AT Case so it would shut down my motherboard before the fans would spin, Thanks to everyone that spent their time looking into my problem and if you have my email, hehe stay in touch I Will be on this site all the time and refering more and more people !!!!!!!!! WPPPPPPP:D :D Does that mean I have to go ahead and buy a new tower ?

Oh, one more thing about motherboards given the PSU test results and the problem symptoms only.

You DID use mounting studs for motherboard, right, the brass ones that hold it up off the flat metal motherboard tray??? I have seen folks that hav enot doen so, get those exact results, funny thing is if the board has not been on for a long time that the only things you then need to do to "fix" comes in three parts:

First, remove motherboard, put in studs, and mount board right.

Second, go to WalMart, Kmart, or Home Depot, spend about $1.75-2.00 including tax on a CR2032 or DL2032 coin sized battery, looks about like a big old-fashioned nickel in size, and is 3 volt nominal voltage. Remove old CMOS battery, which got instantly drained when you plugged in power to PSU as the battery socket contacts were shorted to ground plane (flat motherboard mount surface does that too) due to motherboard resting tight against metal of flat "tray" instead of being raised above it by studs.

    Third, replace CMOS battery.

    Now, try booting up.

Note, NOT saying the thread starter did this, but have seen the results after that exact thing was done by two CompTIA A+ certified techs in last year though (not me, they brought the computer build to me with motherboard neatly screwed directly to mount tray\panel), and quite a few first time builders down here. Will give that cause and fix just because of frequency in my experience in last year.

Thanks, I could take some pics for you except those specs are a bit out dated as of last week. My main rig now has a water cooled Asus K8V & Amd Athlon 64 3200 sitting in it.

Also, I'd advise against DFI LanParty unless you're familiar/comfortable with playing with the setting bios & flashing the bios as they can be a real b!tch to get running smoothly. It usually involves having to flash the bios to an unofficial beta bios. Having said that i do love my lan party board and the overclocks achievable are fantastic. If you're new to this sort of thing I'd recomend the Abit NF7-S, a good, fast & stable board with excellent support.

Anyways I'll have ahunt for some pics & post if I find any.

Edit : try this thread, early pics of it, originally Abit NF7 board

Are you good at cooling and over clocking ? heh Everyone you guys rock !!!!!

Yeah I had all the mounting studs in the Case, was from my old MSI board I Didnt have to move one of them so that shouldnt be a problem....

The Althlon 64 is a lot better CPU huh Doh I want to get that processor now lol And when I See a really nice deal on a good Mobo maybe pick that up. I Would like to learn to over clock and build a nice tower, cooled system. Heh its like working on my corvette I get a little carried away but its sure is a lot of fun!!!!!!!!

I still don't like your case/power switch. If the PSU runs even with a bad mobo you should get an attempt at power up. Do you have an old case available?
I had a bad switch lead in a case once, fought it for months. It wasn't unilt I replaced the case and yanked on the wires that I found that one had never really been crimped in palce.

I Dont have a new case =( I Am trying to find somethin I can afford .... Heh seen some cheap ones on the net but I was hoping to be using the puter this weekend.... I Have like 3 old dell cases they suck though would never work

I Will keep everyone here posted as I Work on it maybe get some pointers. =) I tried other Power switches from other puters not worked either, when you said wasnt crimped right does that mean the Mobo company or you didnt crimp it right ? I Am wwondering if that applies to my situation. I need a new power switch does anyone know where I Might be able to find one ? would prefer not ordering but willing too.

A Single-Pole Momentary switch is all you need.

Try it again out of the case. If it works, go back and check your grounds (especially things which shouldn't be grounded). Make sure all the MB standoffs are in the right place.
