Half life did not suck without mods! If you like doom 3, how can you not like half life? THEY ARE THE SAME DAMNED GAME! ;D

The singleplayer was good. HL:DM was awful in my opinion, I only could stand it if I played with a friend. Team Fortress was good though.

I would have to agree for the most part. For example while I was playing I walked in a doorway and saw a crew member getting sucked into a vent, then body parts falling out of the vent, I was like hey, they ripped that directly out of half life. Instead of traveling in a portal to an alien landscape, you travel in a portal to hell. I dont care much for physics and all that crap if the game is fun. IMO this game was well worth the money. I believe in the beginnning everything is suspensful and scary, then about halfway through the game things speed up. Instead of a single monster jumping out and scarying you a horde of monsters apear in front of you and you are left with your shotgun to pump ammo into all of them.

As for mods, I suppose they can add to the gameplay or takeaway from them. I mean its really your game so who cares what you do with it. People complain about there not being night vision, or a flashlight on your gun because it is deep in the future. So what do they do, go and make a mod where you have a flashlight on your gun. Guess what? I don't think the developers forgot to put it in, I think they left it out purposly.

As someone said the final boss was pretty easy. A whole lot easier than the one in hell. I suppose I am done.

Yeah, the end boss was way easier than the Soul Cube Guardian. Although by the time you get to the end boss, you have the soul cube, which makes it pretty easy... It only took me about 4 tries to beat the end boss, while I was stuck on the Guardian for a couple of frustrating hours.

    Anybody else find "the brick"?

Yes, there was a rather smelly brick sitting in my chair yesterday after I was ambushed by my first imp.

    Gross...

I like the look of the game for sure, as far as gameplay, it's FPS, what do you want? I think I am going to take Prime up on his suggestion of Painkiller and see how that compares. I too have felt the need to bring my rig up to speed for this particular event so I guess there is a benefit there (not reflected in current signature...)

Decent game, not really worth $55 but hey, you are paying for all of those reviews and marketing afterall...

The end boss took me 1 try it was that easy :(

When it speaks to you at first it tells you what you have to-do.

I pretty much feel as everyone else........

graphics = outstanding, amazing, mind-blowing, etc...
gameplay = craptacular, pathetic, seem like an after-thought.

For people who say it's a FPS so what do you expect? I expect developers to take note of what other games are on the market at the same time thier title will be released so that thier title can be competitive. Did anyone at ID even bother to play FarCry or, like prime said, Painkiller? These two titles alone make d3's gameplay feel amateurish at best. With each successive game release, I want something better. I expect things to be highly interactive, and progressive.

D3 is just hype, Id should've spent less on marketing and more on gameplay development. I wouldn't even mind if they pushed the release date back a few months if they would have fixed the horrendous gameplay. Weapons suck, AI sucks-even for the un-dead, not enough variation on characters, no replay-ability...unless you get stoned and stare at the purty graphics.

The thing that bothers me the most is that my marine feels really FAT! He just seems huge when walking through the corridors, a real wide-ass.

Ok, i am done complaining now.

I know there is a hidden PDA on the last level.

But im sure there is another secret, every once in a while there is a computer that has "power failure back up you're work" and you back it up. Maybe once you back them all up you get something?

I think I know the balcony you are referring too. I know where the second protal is. How do I get to main? Using the teleporter or am I way off?
Will I advance from level 2 or from the "main"?

  • edited August 2004
The second portal there should be an option for main.

Well from what i remember, i was really bored with the game.

Last boss is amazingly crappy and easy.

The game picked up for the last hour but that does not make up for the amazingly boring and repetetive gameplay, YAY find the PDA!!! ohhh look hidden monster rooms with monsters just popping out when i either get some health or i walk beyond the room. Yay imps behind the doors so they will jump out at you! like that wasn't over used in the game? And what made it worse is that because you where always in a 3 foot wide drab grey corridor they would always hit you.

Yay let's use some of the best monsters 3 times in the game and over use the imp and zombie combination. Pinky deamon? Burn zombie? Chainsaw zombie? Don't even get me on the flying bags of crap the cocodeamon which when shot would fall down like a let off woopy cushion.

Physics? What physics? Oh yes that horribly unstable piece of mess. Proper mass representation? Pft let's throw that out of the window! A stable solver? Throw that out of the window! Just make sure nothing lands on a uneven surface otherwise the engine is screwed! Justmake sure you don't knock the barrels they wont lose the energy just transfered and will just wobble for eternity.

AI! But ^Ben you say zombies don't need good AI because they are dead! Yes sir Watson but they should be able to navigate a room without becoming stuck on objects, and should be able to get to you when you are in an elevator or standing in a doorway.

    Story line ..........

Multiplayer ....... As we can see with the major bug that is present within the multiplayer at the moment which should of never got past bug testing.

Level design. Dull bland and boring, I swear the whole base is 2 bathrooms and 5 offices and 3 special rooms all connected with an endless supply of 8 metre long corridors.

General WTF. You are in a highly futureristic base and there is absoloutley no way you can attatch a flashlight to a gun? Sentry bots, theese little things kicked ass why did'nt someone deploy them all when the invasion started? Why did'nt Swan deploy them?

    I'm done for now.

    Graphics engine is amazing.

    Very quick review for me.

aww now.. Don't hold back.. Tell us how you really feel about teh game. :buck:

IRT to Painkiller, which was a great game, along with Farcry, I'd have to say it was more linear than even Doom 3. Painkiller is like Serious Sam on steroids. Doom3 is more of an experience.

I think people are just spoiled anymore. The story may read out like Half-Life, but that doesn't bother me so much. Come to think of it, there isn't anything about Doom 3 that bothers me, aside from Imps in hidden doorways, but that's a classic Doom move.

It sounds to me like the problem is that everyone expected it to inquire so much, when really all it did was took us back to a time when FPS games didn't have vehicles, weren't about World War II, didn't have a squad to rely on or accidentally kill, and didn't worry about stealth.

Maybe I'm the only one that appreciates that I don't have to put up with that crap. World War II has been played out to death, vehiclese are over-rated, and I loathe squad based games. That's just my preferance though, and it seems to me that ID and I have the same preferances, which is why they created what I easily hold as the coolest PC game I've played in years.

In my opinion, every 'squad-based' game has been an utter failure, because it just turns into you running around alone with your nutless friends dying and you doing all the work. Call of Duty is about the only game I can stand that's World War II based anymore, and I only play on one realism server with a group of people I've known since Half-Life came out. If you think World War II is played to death, then maybe you should consider the fact that the, "OMG EVIL TYCOON IS MAKING THE ZOMBEHS IN MY BASEMENT ROUTINE," is getting tired as hell for some of us too.

Sure, the whole zombie thing is unoriginal, but did you catch E3 last year? It was World War II fever. I remember reading Game Informer and Play magazine and thinking "Wow. This world war II thing is getting boring".

They should branch out. There's WW1, the American Civil war, etc. Sure, they're just now hitting Vietnam, but it seems like that's going to repeat as well.

I remember sitting down and playing Painkiller and saying to myself "Finally, back to good 'ol 'Hell is on the loose and I've gotta stop it' games." It was nice to see a pentagram on a game again, and I'm by no means satanic.

Doom 3 and even Half Life 2 are going to be great for breaking away from the staleness that exists in modern FPS games. I believe that the PC gaming industry desperately needs games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2. We need something to get us out of the rut that seems to be uninspiration.

That seems like a hypocrisy of itself.

The only thing we need Doom 3 and HL2 for is the advancement of graphics, the fact is that originallity in a game can only go so far, and these companies are not interested in branching for something new and interesting, they are looking to make money and earn a living. It's only once every so many years that you see a game that really advances things visually and in terms of gameplay, and I just don't see HL2 or Doom 3 being that, I don't know if any game could elevate gameplay to a new level.

Would cholera be an issue in a Civil War game? How about a Revolutionary War game? I think it would be pretty cool to be George Washington and throw my wodden teeth like a boomerang at people as a default weapon! ;D Maybe pull a mel Gibson and start impaling bad guys with the flag...
