nope. board's hosed. need a new flash rom from badflash, or you need to do a hot flash, or you need to RMA the board.

i was hoping that boot block thing would help, but it appears that ASUS flashes the boot block area as well, leaving me stranded.. looks like i WILL need to RMA it.. sigh

Dont you just need to put the flash file and the BIN on a disk and let it do what it is asking? It may need to be named specifically...

Oh, actually, I just thought of something. Try re-flashing it with an older BIOS. That may work. I've had this happen to me with my A7N8X before, and I didn't think I was able to fix it, but now I'm not so sure. It was a long time ago, and I don't remember. :-/

Yes, I think you need the 'aflash.exe' file that is on ASUS' site.

Also, if the BIN is on a disk, there is a boot optionon the Asus board to boot to aflash - it's built into the ROM, and if that's uncorrupted you may be able to use the built-in version to flash the BIOS. I've done that before when I screwed mine up.

i cant get to the asus aflash thing.. i know 'cause i used it to flash it in the first place... (alt-f2 wasnt it?)

and about putting awdflash and the bin on a floppy, it starts awdflash, then says "source file not found" even though i followed instructions and created an autoexec.bat saying "AWDFLASH 1012-E.BIN /S and all the /whatever stuff" it just doesnt start flashing...

and as for flashing with an older bios... i gotta be able to flash it before i can flash it with a older bios -_- i cant even flash it sigh

Sounds like it can't find the BIN file on the disk.

Try to download and use the 1011 BIOS. I've included it to download from my post. I've also included the latest awdflash as well.

Put them both on a bootable floppy. Boot from the floppy. When you get to the A:\ prompt, type in just awdflash. Then, it should give you the option box. Choose the option to update BIOS from file, then in the box type in C18E1011.BIN. If it completes, great. If not, maybe new chip. :(

Eh i cant even bood from any floppy other than a floppy with AWDflash on it... no dos, nothing... and when awdflash opens... the cursor is in the wrong place, and accepts no input from the keyboard...

USB or PS/2 Keyboard? A lot of times I've had to hook a PS/2 keyboard up to my PC when doing old-school stuff like updating the BIOS from a floppy.

Hey, it might be a bad floppy - I've had that happen and cause me an endless amount of suffering until I tried it with a different disk.

this is.. the 4th floppy i've tried, but i'll give it another go... and now using GH's files, i realized theres a 128kb BIN file inside the BIN.... and AWDflash loads THAT bin file, but doesnt recognize the 512kb one... but when it loads ther 128kb one it says "please wait..." and nothing happens... any ideas?

Do you have another working NF 2 board there? Or do you have a neighbour who have one? If you do, let's do a hotflash.

haha i know plenty of people with the same board.. but... i dont want to risk screwing up another person's board and having to fork out money to fix theirs on top of having to fix mine...

Then i think you are stuck i'm afraid. Either you buy a pre-flashed bioschip from badflash or rma the board. However, knowing Asus and their terrible support (ask Shorty), i think you might have a problem rma'ing the board. OR, buy a new board, use it as a flash tool and return it. At least you have options. The last one is ugly though.

There's a BIN file inside the ZIP file that you need to unzip first, and then just copy the BIN to the floppy - but there shouldn't be a BIN inside the BIN... curious.

-_- sigh this sucks... the weirdest thing is that awdflash recognizes the 128kb BIN but not the 512kb BIN... its uberscrewed up =/

K.. so i've given in to the fact that i probably wont be able to fix it. So if i were to go to Badflash.com and get a new bios for myself, does that void the warrantee? and if i were to sya, get asus to do it, would it NOT void my warranty? and has anybody actually used badflash? are they any good? i dont wanna get scammed hehe

new bios for myself...and has anybody actually used badflash? are they any good?...

Badflash is a first rate company that stands behind their product and service. I know first hand. Many of us here at S-M have done business with them.

Concerning your mobo's warranty after installing a new BIOS. I doubt it would make a difference unless you damaged the board during removal of the old and refitting with the new BIOS chip. Email or call Badflash about your warranty questions. They will be honest with you.

Sorry about your problem. It's frustrating as heck.

Umm... Am I the only one that uses ASUSUpdate to upgrade the bios from within Windows? I've already done it 3 times since I got the board. There's a newer bios I could update to now, but I'll wait 'till there's no chance of a power outage hehe. Stupid hurricanes.

I used AsusUpdate when I built my brother rig. Upgraded the bios from 1009 to 1011. Worked just fine and I didn't kill the BIOS.
