A statement like that just seems really wierd to me coming from someone who is so fluent in computers and electrical components. granted, I've noticed drasnor is exactly the same way, but I love math and have yet to find any of it very challenging (even in college), on the contrary it is really interesting and lots of fun for me. off topic i know

Math is very difficult for me, which is why I'm taking the least amount of it required for my degree as possible. It simply does not "Click" with me when I attempt to do anything beyond average algebra/geometry.. I don't know why, and it frustrates the piss out of me because I'm generally very adept at what ever I put my mind to.

Math just doesn't get along with me.

upper level math requires a completely different mindset than lower level math does, so I completely understand where you're coming from. I've found that the more high level stuff I learn, different integration techniques etc, the worse I become at simple stuff like division

also, Mondi, AWESOME pictures, I'd love to see the completed animation

I feel for you. I worked very, very hard at math through junior high, high school, and college. Algebra, Geometry, Physics; when I got to calculus I never did get that frame of mind Baron is talking about. I dropped my calculus course early enough to avoid receiving a grade! It really frustrated me, because I, oh so wanted to understand. I thought physics was fun, and wanted to continue applied mathematics.

BTW I don't think it's appropriate to label the animation/pics with 'pure math', seems more like artistic/visual math. Not to be picky or anything I just think it's something of a misnomer, like if someone came here looking for a good mathematical discussion or something :)

If I had to rate my math ability/background, I'd be a little modest to say it was above average, of course it depends on what group you're averaging eh?, but if one of you guys needs some help on math drop me an IM sometime...

Math is about as fun as walking through the Sahara desert with crabs pinched onto my nipples. I can solve any problem you put in front of me basically, but I absolutely have no desire to learn it outside of class. Doing homework is a real treat aswell.

Looks good Mondi, but what is it for exactly? Home project? Freelance? Annoying yet cool underground biochemical laboratory where they experiment on humans?

I thought I was the only one! I made it through four semesters of calculus, and now I can't remember how to re-arrange formulas algebraically! I can't FACTOR. Drives me nuts. :banghead:

And Mondi is the man. :D

Math has always been easy for me. Never studied for any math tests all the way thru AP Calc and into 4 classes in College. In fact I have basically yet to learn anything new in college. It was pretty much all a review for 4 semesters.:rolleyes2

There is no thinking involved. Follow the formula and there is the answer.

Same thing for me. I'm only in Algebra II right now, but I love it. Numbers and letters and such I like - last year's Geometry class I hated with a passion :mean:

I'm trying to find sacrasm somewhere there because I gotta say that's pretty wrong. Understanding math takes thinking, and performing it does take less. But either way, excepting simple problems with a given method (i.e. not real-world)... to know what to do you've got to think.

Its for my masters thesis, basically ill have an animation for each of the planets, plus the sun ... so 10 total, each exploring various aspects of their character etc ...

thanks for the kind words guys, even though the thread title was kind of misleading, Ill post more as the project continues ..

I find math easy because there is always a right answer and there are specific directions to get to the right answer for the most part. I have always liked Math and Science better than English and Lit EXACTLY for that reason. In Lit or Eng, everyone could have a different answer and get to that answer a different way and still be right. In Math and Science, Everyone follows the same steps to get to the same exact answer. There is hardly any deviation.

I understand where you're coming from, I think that's the main divergance of people in school I think. People are either more English + Lit or Math + Science. History is odd, some math people like it because their are raw answers, some English types like it because it can be 'interpreted.'

Hm. I must be an exception. Damn my exceptions ¬_¬ .

I love science, love English, like math a lot, but hate History with a passion...

I used to hate history. I find now the older I get the more interesting history becomes, it's how we got to be where we are.
