Hi guys.

I have a RAID 0 setup on my ABIT MAX2 mb. They're on a seperate IDE port. I can still plug 2 more harddrive on the IDE cable, but if i only plugin one what will happen? Will the RAID screw up? Im planning to buy a new Harddrive for data storing purpose, and im not quite sure which IDE channel should i plug it in(non-RAID port or RAID port).

Also could some1 plz recommend a new HD?? 2mb or 8mb??

Thanx

...put the third hard drive on one of the regular IDE channels and leave the raid channels alone. Since you mention that it's just for storage, it will be fine there. I love the 8MB drives - well worth the few extra bucks, especially now that they've dropped in price so much. I saw a 160GB drive for $100 after rebates.

If you have a FREE ide port anywhere then put the drive in there. But no its not gonna mess up the existing raid or even hurt the performance except a little when you transfer from the existing raid to the new HD. as the transfers come on the same ide channel.

As for what hard drive to get... Maxtor's DiamondMax 9 8mb/7200RPM hard drives are really the best IDE drives out there, IMO. The FDB motors are better than the ball bearing motors in the WDs, because they run quieter & cooler, and they're marginally faster than the WDs as well.

I'll agree with the quieter aspect at least. I've got both the fluid bearing 8mb cache Maxtors and the WD JBs. The Maxtors are noticeably quieter.

    THanx for the replys!

BTW do you guys have any opinions about Seagate drives?? Is it getting worse nowdays...since not many ppl are mentioning this drive since cuda IV?

I've noticed WD and cuda ST20026A both has 3yr warranty. Im not sure about Maxtor's warranty.

    Thanx!! =)

Never had one in my systems, but my dad hates them- he's had more seagates die than any other brand, and he's been doing sysadmin work for my grandfather's business for a while... I do know the new 'Cudas are not as fast as the Maxtors or WDs...
