Installing.... WINDOWS 95!

OK, so I cannot seem to get XP or 2000 torun a special game of mine. I found online that it's pretty much easier to install Windows 95, than to tweak the crap out of your PC to run just the one game I am having trouble with since the compadibility mode thing isn't good enough.

I have a Windows 95 disk "WITH USB SUPPORT!". But while booting up my PC which I am going to dual boot it on, it just skips past it and goes on booting Windows 2000.

What am I doing wrong? I have checked in my BIOS and it is set to check the CDROM first for bootable devices, in fact I even set it to be the ONLY thing it should boot from.

Any ideas guys!?

It's possible that the win95 disk you have isn't bootable. Try making a dos boot floppy with CD ROM support and booting off of that to get Win95 going.

Sounds like the CD isn't bootable. Make a 95 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com.

//EDIT: Prime beat me to it.

ok, awsome program probably. Unfortunatly, the game I am trying to run is not a DOS game so won't install. 95 or 98 only :(

But I am trying... won't sleep until it's done :D

Assuming it told you that it found your cdrom drive, just switch to whatever drive letter it was assigned and type setup, then hit Enter.

I don't think it sees my cdrom :(

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and find the Windows 98 SE Custom, No Ramdrive disk. I know you're doing Win95, but it will do the best at detecting your drive.

does the same thing, only two items i can use are the A and C drives, everything else seem to be invalid drive specifications. Even though when booting it shows my CDROM in the windows 98 driver thing before it gets to the command prompt.

    Any ideas?

Check the autoexec.bat file, you should be able to figure out what letter it is assigning to your CD drive. Another nice touch is to copy the cab files to the HDD and install from HDD (it goes alot faster) there's also a command you can run, it has something to do with memory management that will speed things up. Sorry I don't remember the name, it has been a LONG time since I installed any variant of 95

I tried every letter in the alphabet for my cdrom drive, the rest of that stuff I have no idea how I would do. :(

Wish I had 98SE laying around somewhere ....

ok found it, I guess I didn't go through them all after all.....why on god's green earth it was R: is beyond me.

But it started and stopped telling me i needed a certain amount of space on the drive, so right now I am formating it in hopes that was the problem.

You might be able to trick the installer with dosbox. Tried that?

    Run this command:

mount c:\ (insert directory to the installer here)

    Then type c:\

    Then launch the installer.

I ran the above guide, and it gave me errors. To me it was pretty obvious that thegame requires 95/98. Whichis installed now BTW, but I can't boot intoit for whatever it. I get an IOS error, Windows Protection stuff. Tyring a checkdisk right now.

If only I didn't have work tomorrow.

I just reinstalled Windows 95 and it still does this problem where it starts booting 95 with the logo showing for a split second, then it goes to a screen giving an IOS erros and under it saying "Windows rotection Error". Google search shows no help, but I didn't find thing, but not for me specifically. :(
