This could be an issue with Easy CD Creator version 5.01 or earlier. If you have one of these versions on your computer you could install the latest version and that might resolve your problem.
Otherwise your best bet is going to be in editing the registry. You can save a backup just in case something goes wrong, which it shouldn't if you follow the directions carefully. Here's how to save a backup.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the subkey that contains the value that you want to edit.
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.
ok how can i upgrade to the newer versions because i think thats the problem? thanx man i appreciate you helping people out like this, if it wasnt for you guys i think i would have threw the computer into a corner. i think i found where to upgrade but it just keeps telling me to buy 7.5 and thats rediculas. if they messed up my computer then why should i have to pay to upgrade to fix it.
Nevermind buckeye i got it. your a genius. thank you so much, i now have my cd drive and dvd drive. im so happy now, i dont what to say. ive been without this for so long. thanks so much. Im lucky i found this forum you guys really know what you are doing. thanks so much, i c cant even stop thanking you lol.
everything seems clean, and i got my drives back. But i have 1 last problem, my dad paid for Nortan anitvirus- system works the newest one i think, and the liveupdate which updates the list of new viruses hasnt worked in like 6 months, and even after im clean it still wont work. my dad called them up a while ago and they told him to uninstall and reinstall the whole system works, so i helped him do that and it didnt work. But what im thinking is maybe since im clean now and there is nothing stopping it i should reinstall it all? but i wanna hear your oppinion, you usually know what to do
I'm not a big fan of Norton to begin with, but if that's what they told you to do I don't know of any reason why that would be wrong.

I have the same/similar problem on one of my computers. Live update works, but not from the Systemworks panel. I had to go into the installation folder, find the Live Update initiation file. I made a shortcut of it and put it in the Windows Start Menu. Never did figure out how to get the default Live Update botton to work again.
Buckeye, I agree with you - I'm not finding much utility any more with Systemworks. I was a definite plus for Windows 98, but is really of little use for XP. All the components of Systemworks can be found in freeware or low-cost alternative programs. But, for someone who doesn't know how or where to get the alternative components, I suppose Systemworks is still a good package.
yea i dont like the nortan either. they have S**** service. everytime you call them for help its always in asia and they put you on hold for literally 1 hour then they pick up and tell you to do stuff that u have already done and half the time u cant understand them.
i tried just reinstalling live update and it was halfway done and i got this error message
"INSTALL ERROR 10, The live update install failed because live update was not able to register one of its components, you need to have the write acces to the regsitry to install"
Im pretty much sick of Nortan, What free ant-virus do you recomend? because im gonna download something to use for more protection.
I'm going to consider this thread "resolved" and close it. I'm glad we were able to help you. Please consider joining our folding team, we would love to have you be a part of our community
