Thanks a bunch for ur website. I have a Toshiba Satellite 1115-S107 (P4 1.8GHz, 512MB, 20GB). I was wondering if you could provide a guide for opening that up (I want to clean out the heat sink coz the fan goes on high RPM most of the time which didn;t happen when i bought it about 3 years ago). If not, atleast which of the above models is the closest to mine. Appreciate any help u can provide.
Also, my backlight allegedly has gone for a toss; So 've hooked up the laptop to a desktop monitor. This happened about couple of months back. But it somehow came on again in a week or so, lasted a hour & went black again!! I have a feeling it might be loose cable inside...or does a bad backlight come & go like that. Inputs are welcome.

I do not remember this model off the top of my head. If it doesn’t have a dedicated heatsink on the bottom, then you have to remove the keyboard and try to access the heatsink there. To remove the keyboard: remove the keyboard securing strip, remove couple securing screws, remove the keyboard. If you cannot access the heatsink there, then you have to remove the top cover.

A would try to reseat connectors on the FL inverter board. It looks like your FL invert is going bad. Sometimes reseating connectors can fix the problem.
My girlfriend and i both have the Toshiba P-35 series we use for our photography business and because we shoot Motocross and use these laptops in highly dusty environments, they constantly need cleaned, we have tried several times to take these apart to clean them and very recently they have been going to battery mode for no reason ( while they are plugged in ) and we are desperate to take them apart to clean them...and boy oh boy...they do get quite hot.
Today i googled Toshiba laptop repair ohio ( the state we live in ) and i found this forum and your post on taking laptops apart, the instructions are clear and today we will be going forth with trying to get these things working properly again, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Just wanted to register to tell you that.....

Make sure you don't have a static charge when you work on the laptops. Avoid carpeted rooms. Try to touch something metal before you touch the computer internals.

I don't think I metnioned this before, but I found your guide very useful when taking apart my wife's Satellite M35X earlier this year after she spilled 12 ounces of apple juice into the keyboard.
