Yeah. Maybe we should look into it. Rent a hall or something, I don't know if any of us actually have the room for a semi-big LAN. I think its finally bedtime though. I'll see you all in the morning, for another day of me staring at my two useless computers without vid cards!!! If only the 9800 had shown yesterday instead of Monday................

If it's still under warrenty then you would probably be able to get it replaced (but no need as Primes mate is going to fix it) but still, I highly doubt that they would notice the missing chip.

Damnit, I wan't a LAN party. I'm now doing a degree in IT and still no-one is geeky enough to do things like LAN parties, it's rediculus. Bet there won't be anyone at PhD level either....... WHERE HAS ALL THE GEEKYNESS GONE?!

Pseudonym, don't worry about it. It's not your fault in any way, shape or form. I was gonna take it out to see if I could cram a copper s370/a hsf on it anyhow. But curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to pull off the heatspreader on the back to see about attaching some ramsinks to whatever is under there, and in doing so I ripped off one of the ICs. It's my own fault for not thinking about it before I did it. Hopefully, like I said, ATi won't look too closely at it and just replace the damn thing. If they don't, at least I'll have a reason to buy a 9800 Pro/256...

Anyhow, I was going to .zip the pix I took (I took 6, but I wanted to make sure that was the right chip before I uploaded them) but the maximum attachment size is still only 500k, regardless of what the form says  and since most of the images are over 500k (most are 1156x1024), I'm going to get them up on the site I host my sig on somehow... it's not cooperating right now though. Give me an hour or two.

I don't know if it is or if it isn't. Its an OEM Sapphire 9500 non-pro, which I know don't exist anymore. I have no idea what the warranty on these things are, I'd rather try and fix it though. If it doesn't work after the fix, maybe then I'll try and figure out how to send the thing back.

    Ok, here's the URL:

    http://www.angelfire.com/pro/geeky1/r9700/r9700.htm

I hope to hell you're not on dialup, because Angelfire wouldn't cooperate with my .zip, so that page has ~2mb of images on it. I didn't crop them or anything, so they're all full 1152x864 images- 6 of them (well except the first one, which I forgot to up the resolution for). They aren't in any order or anything, but hopefully it'll help.

No problem. I'll get rid of them at some point, but they only take up 2mb, I've got 20, and I don't use that site for anything except hosting images and stuff for posting in forums (for right now anyhow) so I'll leave 'em for a while in case anyone else needs them.

    UPDATE.

Being the impaitent little monkey that I am, I decided to do a little test on the card. Using Geeky's excellent pictures, I mounted the SMR correctly and did a, ummm, sticky repair.... (Read racers tape).

Turn on the comp and WHAMO!! It works again!! Seems that the card wasn't damaged at all. I'll need to run a 3D mark on it just to check, but it seems everything is ok. Now I just need a more permanent solution. Thanks guys.

    A little far he says.

Shorty and I were talking when the SM Door Prize winner (Leishi) had been announced. He said "Why hell, you could just drive it over to him" hahaha.. Detroit to Kentwood is as far as England coast to coast.

People forget how big a state Michigan is.... ;)

Kentwood is about 3-4 hours depending on how you drive dude...

Oh Puhleeeze. According to Yahoo maps, Kentwood it ~150 miles from Detroit, and about a 2.5hr drive. Which means I could make it in slightly <2hrs, assuming traffic wasn't a problem...

Honestly, you guys. 150 freaking miles.

    ;D
