The gloves are off now, I reckon the PR machines are warming up slowly.
Unfortunately, AMD's PR machine is only warmed up about once every two years. :sad2:

A long pipeline is only as good as the prefetch to keep the pipe full. Otherwise its pretty much useless.
A better prefetch is something with the new AMD 64s and Opterons which go along with 2 extra stages in the pipeline.

Long pipes need a really good branch predictor too, otherwise all those prefetches are for naught.

So far AMD has done an excellent job as the longer pipeline seems to have been compensated for by the branch predictor and prefetch improvements. It does get harder with a longer pipeline though
