Porn Pages Reach 260 Million

It seems online pornography is still the biggest thing the NET has to offer (with the exception of Short-Media that is). It appears the amount of explicit sexual material on the internet is only growing, with the official number of porn pages on the web, reaching a staggering, 260 Million.

I wonder if they have published a list...;)
An 1,800 percent growth rate over five years is typically considered an online success story, but in this case, the statistic pertains to Web porn. N2H2 found that the number of pornography related Internet pages grew from 14 million in 1998 to roughly 260 million in 2003.

This data comes on the heels of news that Microsoft Corp. is closing down chat rooms in 28 countries, in efforts to stem the presence of sexual predators of children, and Internet Filter Review found that the average age a child is first exposed to pornography online is 11 years old. Nearly all (90 percent) of kids aged 8-16 have viewed porn online, mostly while doing homework.

Oh, I can believe it. That roughly corresponds to the number of spam emails I've received touting the latest, greatest hardcore sites! :hrm:

WHY CAN'T SOMEONE JUST PUT IT ALL IN A .ZIP FILE SO I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH VISITING 260 MILLION WEBSITES? ;D;D;D

LOL... you must consider how many sites actually contain duplicate content, if you counted only the sites with original content you would be lookin at about 30 websites.... :D

On a more serious note I always though that the web should have a red light district, move all porn sites from www. to something like http://xxx.bignaturals.com etc.. prefix them with a xxx that way you can keep a 6 yr old from discovering the joys of 40dd before they were meant to...

I think the best way to handle the porn "problem" (Problem in that I don't want my kid sister or my boys to stumble across porn) is to create a porn-only TLD, like .xxx.

    so, you'd have:

    www.asslicking18yearolds.xxx

and a porn-only TLD would be much much easier to block at the network level. I mean, 99% of the porn sites out there would willingly allow their sites to be blocked to minors. I can't imagine why a .xxx TLD hasn't been created yet.

Agreed. Actually, that's been a proposal for years now. Don't know why it hasn't been acted upon.
