A question about how to apply thermal paste.

I've always heard and read that a paper thin layer is best but since the paste is really only there to fill microscopic pits and imperfections, wouldn't merely smearing a tiny bit on with a platic bag around your finger be even better? Paper thin almost seems too thick. edit: Also, are antec silver and arctic silver…

It took me a long time before I was willing to do differently than the thin, 100% coverage method. But the dot seems to work just as well. Just ensure that after you put the heatsink down it, you rotate the heatsink a few degrees in each clock direction. Movement should be minimal, as you don't want to creat any bubbles in the paste.
