System Mechanic 6 Professional

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anybody ever heard of System Mechanic 6 Professional.
My friend swears by it and claims that it fixes all sorts of stuff, so I tried it out.
It rated my system as in poor condition, so I ran all of the crazy applications to get my system up to good condition.
I haven't noticed my computer being any faster, so I was wondering if this program actually does anything, or if it just makes the user feel good that he was able to make his system go from poor to good. o.O

I think those system tuning programs are just snake oil. In fact, I used to use Norton System Works, or whatever the hell it's called, and it did more damage than good. You're better off checking for spyware and cleaning your temp files and internet cache on your own. Letting those programs mess with your registry settings and other "tweaks" is just asking for trouble.

I use RegCleaner, It hasnt messed anything up, but that is all it does, and all it does is check for duplicate or invalid entries left over from a sloppy un-install.

You can find free programs to do everything that $50 program does. The anti-spyware type stuff is well worth having, but anything which claims to tweak your registry should be eyed with suspicion. You'd be better off doing the research to figure out what exactly is being tweaked and edit the registry yourself manually - after you've exported the part you intend to modify.

    Save your money. :)

Nearly the same story with me. SystemWorks, or whatever it was called during the Windows 98 times did have its utility (pardon the pun). It actually was a great tool for 98. Symantec did their best keep it valid for WinXP, but in my opinion, XP never really needed it. Of course, Symantec kept marketing it as if everyone needed it.

Alpha, the best you can do for computer to keep it running efficiently:

    anti-virus, always updated
    anti-spyware, always updated
    hard drive defragmentation, routine
CCleaner, if you do frequent software testing and uninstalling

I was just asking if the program was any good or not :-p
I didn't think it was, good thing I got it for free ;)
I might check out that regcleaner though

I do the routine stuff already:
