Yeah i just got some themal paste i was about to start , what cleaner do u recommend for the old thermal paste?

I use an industrial solvent I get from work which is 50% xylene and 50% isopropyl alcohol but this isn't commonly available for other folks. I would recommend that you use Goo Gone or naptha (zippo lighter fluid), followed by a thorough wipedown with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol from Walmart or a pharmacy).

Ed, no access to an o-scope unfortunately. :(

Acetone. I've been using it for years. It's cheap, at any hardware store, evaporates quickly, and leaves no film behind. Lots of people like denatured alcohol. I've Acetone to be the best of anything that can found easily. It will strip any grease off of any surface.
