DAMNIT! I don't NEED one, but this is too good to pass up....

    What about the 947u? That's currently $39.

Would I, with an NF7-S (fits the SLK 900) be any better off with the 947? Does the 947u perform any better than the 900a?

For a $20 difference, I would say definitely go with the 900.

But, how much of a performance diff is there between the two?

/me looks for reviews compairing the two...

I dunno... the -4*C under load is a noticible diffrence in my book....

    What do you guys think??

EDIT: There have been similar results from other review sites as well.

I hadn't seen that before and don't know any of the variables in their test. The 947 was meant to be a more universal fit since the 900 only fit an a few boards and some still needed mods made to acomodate.

this will be my first venture with the SLK, do you guys suggest I go with their suggested Vantec Tornado, or is that gonna be insanely loud? I dont' mind a bit of noise, my current HSF is kinda loud, pretty strong fan, I like some ambient noise to go to sleep by :)

    Tornado is quite loud!

50CFM or more is what you want though.

woohoo, got mine ordered with Some AS5 gonna try out the fan I am using right now, I replaced the fan on my stock AMD heatsink (pieeeece) with a decently high output one, not sure of the brand though, so I'm gonna try that, so glad I'm finally getting a high quality heatsink at such a good price!

I just ordered one today, thanks for the tip MoXon!

I was going to buy an SK-7 for the livingroom machine, but for the same price, an SLK-900 is hard to turn down! I'll put it on my main rig and put my Smart Fan 2 on it, and put my SLK-800 in the livingroom.

I'm tempted to buy another one for IC11...

Uh... how are you planning on putting a 60mm fan (amd retail hsf size) on a heatsink that only takes >= 70mm fans?

    65 and up, Geeky1

    Still doesn't cover 60, but...

My mistake, then. 65mm. But it still won't fit a 60mm. You might be able to use the 70mm clips tho... I dunno. I'd have to yank mine out and look at it.

av as in short for avitar, I know that the file is avi.

I already have an extra AX-7 for my next build.
I still havent figured out how to hide it from my wife.
I am going to see if they will let me run it at work. I have an extra network line into my office, and lots of space.

To order two, or not to order two... THAT is the question. What do you guys think? I've got SLK-800As on my dual 2500+ system now. I don't think that I'll be able to fit 2 92mm fans on it, since the 80mm fans are actually in physical contact with one another as it is. So, it would just be a heatsink upgrade from the 800 to the 900... worth $40?

I don't think going from an 800 to a 900 without going to a larger fan is really worth it. I feel the biggest reason for going to the 900 is to be able to use the larger fans.

I never said I was using an AMD retail fan on my SLK900, just that I've only used AMD Retail HSFs on my processor thus far :rolleyes2 the fan I'm using on my retail Heatsink that came with my 2100 was a much higher airflow one that came off a CyberCooler HSF that sucked bad, but the fan was good.

but if it fits on a retail heatsink it's a 60mm fan. The SLK-900 was never intended to take 60mm fans period... so I'm just wondering how you got one on there... I've done it before myself, actually, but it wasn't exactly mounted securely, so...
