Apple Sucks

As you know, since the HDD in my new comp is being RMA'd, I had to connect my iPod to my old computer to charge, and I forgot iTunes erases all the songs the first time I connected it. So since all my songs got erased anyway, I thought I'd do a quick iPod update and used the new iTunes to update to the latest firmware. As soon as the iPod rebooted from the new firmware install, it said that 1.5 GB of it was full, so I did a "restore iPod" and it restored and did everything it was supposed to. Then, as soon as it rebooted, it asked me what language I wanted. It should enter disk mode as soon as it reboots properly, but I tried 10-15 times by turning it off and back on, selecting a language, unplugging the USB and replugging it, etc, but it just won't enter disk mode, and my PC won't recognize it. I'm trying to install RockBox, but I can't format it to FAT32 until something recognizes it, and I tried to manually enter diskmode by holding Select and Play/Pause at boot up but that doesn't work either. Any ideas?

How old is your iPod? My bro-in-law's old iPod crapped out when he updated to the newest iTunes. Apparently the early pods have issues with the newest iTunes.

V/P, I apologize for adding no value to your post. I am completely unskilled when it comes to things Apple, except for removing Apple products that seem to be bundled (even hidden) with other software installations these days.

Don't worry about it. I know most of you well enough. Now does anyone actually have an answer to my problem?

FYI, there are two packages available on Apple website. One of them does not have iTunes integrated (QuickTimeInstaller.exe). If you do not want to download a new package, you can open the iTunes integrated package (ITunesSetup.exe) in 7Zip and extract Quicktime.msi to install Quicktime alone.

The real annoying part with Quicktime installation is to remove tray icon and quicklaunch icon, and also disable automatic updates and qttask.exe at startup after the installation.

Since iTunes version 7, the firmware updates for iPods come through iTunes instead of downloading the installer program. I let iTunes install firmware version 1.2.1, and lo and behold it borked the iPod connector I have for my car stereo. I must have Googled a hundred different terms to find out how to downgrade from 1.2.1 back to 1.2. Everything I put in came up a dead end. Finally, I decided to Google "iPod firmware 1.2.1 sucks." Amazingly, it came up with the answer I needed. ;D
