I got a call today from a buddy that they needed to clear out a building that belonged to his buisness and he wanted to know if I wanted to haul anything off before they had someone empty the place. I said sure I would scarf thru it and see if anything was worth hauling off. OMG! What a deal...

Lets see... Behind me I have a 8 foot tall stack of rack mount scsi drives. 8 drives per case. dual fault tolerant PSU's in each case. 12 rack mount chassis in all. 8 drives per case. Half have their own raid controllers built in.

We got one DLT tape library and three DLT tape drives. I got a 7 foot 19 inch rack with smoked glass doors and a half rack. Boxes and boxes of other stuff. It was unreal. Optical drives? maybe half a dozen total....

They had tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff sitting there they were gonna PAY someone to haul off. We got five 20" monitors... they had a big digital alpha server and stacks of macs sitting there. Three huge copiers. Furniture out the wazoo !

I am trying to get a truck rented to go back for more booty before they have the thing cleared.

Funny thing is I could rent a truck and they would PAY ME to haul the shit away for christ sake! This was a big printing company that had bought out a smaller rival company. They ahve printing stuff laying everywhere. Huge cameras and stuff. I just don't know where to even sell crap like that. This is HUGE stuff attached to the celing and walls...

I'll post pics later. This was an awesome haul !

My leg is killing me. Those friggin scsi rack things filled with drives weigh probably 60 pounds a piece. Its the most heavy lifting I have had to do since I got out of the hospital.

Robin comes into the room and just shakes her head and runs out right now. She says I better get some of this shit gone fast! Crap they have a big conferance table and cool furniture I want to go back for so she has not even begun to to see the total destruction to the house yet.

The guys said they had another building with between 25 and 30 big ass copiers too. They do jobs for Richoh and 3M etc.. and they demand they use THEIR copiers and so they provide them free copiers... Usually used for that one job and pushed into a corner somewhere. He said some of the copiers were like 20,000 bucks new.... And used for ONE JOB... Not sure if he was serious when he asked if I wanted any of them ??? I pee'd in my pants.

I can help you out with that one... I'll take the rackmount drives, the racks, the server, the macs, the optical drives, and any other misc. computer crap you picked up. If you happen across any other computer stuff, I'll take that too. And guess what... I'm such a nice guy, I'll even pay shipping... not only do you not have to pay someone to haul it out of your house, but I'll pay to have it shipped. Oh, and I might want a few of those copiers as well... :D:D

All I can say is that you're a lucky SOB, you know that? And, as said before, we need pics!

I'll have to split this haul with the guy who's truck we used actually. As the truck was almost full we were argueing over what to even take at the end... (LMAO) I kept telling him to put the damn Mac's down and grab the DLT tape drives etc... pretty funny watching his eyes when we first started walking thru the building. We spent an hour going thry piles of stuff and boxs just seeing what all was there.

I had been thru the building before but back then they wanted to keep all the scsi racks and shit and I only got to rummage thru some old stuff. This time they just said take whatever you want to haul off so I quickly got a hold of a neighber with a truck and we hurried and loaded what we could before they changed their mind.

Actually I know the other guy is planning to sell stuff at the flea market that comes on first Monday of every month. Not sure what I am gonna do with my crap yet. Depends on how much else I get scarfed and how loud and long Robin screams at me.

But you swing by Dallas and I'm always good for a couple cold beers and a steak on the grill anyway.

man, how much u want for a 20" monitor?

The shipping is the problem buddy. You can buy them used localy with no chance of damage in shipment for the same sorta price.
Without original shipping containers trying to ship a 20 inch monitor is dicey at best.

I can buy 20" monitors here used for 100 to 120 bucks all day long and I bet if you scarf around you can in the Detroit area also.

The ones I am scarfing are hitachis' and viewsonic's mostly. Sad deeal is there are probbaly thirty 15 inch monitors we may not even take because no one has a place to store them and I have 3 spare 20" monitirs in the office now. I bet we take the 17 and 20 inch ones and leave the rest. There are boxs of just keyboards and shit too

Tex, you know what? I just had an idea. If you wanted to take those 15" monitors, I'm willing to bet that any nonprofit you offered them to would be very happy to have them. I've been doing some work for Habitat For Humanity, and they could really have used all the computer hardware they could get (my grandparents donated 5 new AXP systems...); Also, while I'm not positive, I'll bet that if you donated them, they could be used as a tax deduction...
