I was wondering if this is a palomino, its purple and has no stepping or information on it, other than the usual ASSEMBLED IN MALAYSIA, can anyone tell from my pic?
Nothings wrong with it, the motherboard died. The cpu is really messy because of all the thermal stuff still on it :o im too lazy to clean it off right now
What does wcpuid show it as?
If it shows up as an XP it's a T'bred but a T'bird also looks like that too.
The palomino has a square core and all the surface mount caps and resistors are on the back of the die.
I had a brown T'bred based XP 1800 last march but I haven't seen any since that time.
As to what it was made out of I have no clue but it wasn't the same material as a T'bird.
Yeah I was looking closely at it and I can see where the bridges are connected on the surface of the chip.
T'bird-I can make out the word athlon under the goop.
here's a pic of an 1100 Thunderbird/200 chip that I've got laying around. under the right light, the ceramic package looks purple. Really.......It does!!
I know it's grey, but I was just offering some support!! Put it under flourescent light, in front of a monitor with the S-M Forums up on it and WHAMO!! It looks Purple!! Come on, go with me on this one!!! :confused2

I was agreeing with you, actually.
If I had it still, I'd try it. I don't tho... First one died inexplicably, second one I killed and AMD replaced with a 1700+
Al_Capown had this to say Looks like someone could use some rubbing alcohol.
For real! Clean the goo off and you can probably look up the stepping and find out what it is, if the speed doesn't give it away first.
I get nervous twitches when I see CPUs covered in goo. I'm not obssessive compulsive (bad speller, yes, o.c., no), but I am totally psycho about cleaning the core before I re-goo and install a chip.
It's a 1 Ghz Athlon. Unless that's a fantastic stepping, you probably will only get 100-200 mhz OC out of it. And it'll run a little warmer than a Palomino. But hey, if it works, it works. 1 Ghz isn't stone age (yet ). I had a Duron 1 Ghz for a long time and it worked great.

And what happened to the pore CPU?

It's either a duron or a thunderbird athlon.

AMD never made a purple chip, afaik. Unless you're talking about the core, not the die. The CPU core is purple, yes. But the die is grey.
EDIT//: correction, im colorblind
isn't core and die the same thing??
