I need a second VC so I'm about to buy a NE's refurbished.
Except for the Leadtek NV30 (most expensive), which one would you buy out this list?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ListProduct.asp?DEPA=&type=Refurbish&submit=list&catalog=48&description=VIVO&sortby=22&order=1

Thanks in advance. ;)

My budget is any of those except for the most expensive.
No gaming for me but I need VIVO though...

    Cheers!

That's a damn nice card for the money. I had one of those (4 x AGP version) and the ViVO on it works great.

Thats my vote... but let a few others scan the list and make the recommendations :)

So do you think a Ti4200 is faster than a FX5600 Ultra?
Speed isn't an issue considering what I have now but I'd like to be up to date as much as possible.

    There's a comparison chart here :)

The 5600ultra will beat the 4200 but the price hike to a standard 5600 (non ultra) on that newegg list is $40 before you even hit the ultra line (and Ti4600's listed which outperform a 5600) :)

Anything under that 5600ultra will be outperformed in almost all instances by the 4200 or 4600 listed, which led me to my suggestion. I was working on the "still reasonably new & upto date with a cracking price"

As you aren't a gamer, having a reasonably new card with plenty of grunt that beats "the new crop" and has the ViVO capabilities is my thought :)

    You did good, thanks dude!

MSI Ti4200 will be unless I get some more feedback telling me otherwise...

Just don't plan on reaching the sky with overclocking, I have that card in my kid's computer and it doesn't OC worth a darn. Other than that, it's a perfectly fine card.

Thank you both but it's too late now. I'm not a gamer and that card wouldn't break any records to justify OC'ing it anyway so I think it'll do just fine fo me.

    Cheers!

Well, my bad luck continues... :banghead:

As you all know, NewEgg is pretty good when it comes to refurbished stuff. They warn you not to expect everything but they always ship it complete anyways, at least in my own experience over the past years.

Not this time though. I got a bare card, the HS is busted of the clips, there is evidence of voltage mods and AS? all over the place... :grumble:

Very disappointed to say the least and obviously the card is going back so if you see a refurbished MSI Ti4200 for sale, don't buy it! :D

I personelly would reccomend a Radeon over an nVidia card anyday.

Everything that came prior to the GeForceFX series are still good products. Especially when it comes to the bang/buck category.

Absolutely! My Ti4200 is in Trinity's PC and it's still running like a mofo. They are/were a special card :D

Thank you all for the good feedback.

One more if I may: how about an Asus R9600XT VIVO for about $200 shipped?

    Core=500 / Memory=600 / RAMDAC=400

Yeah, that's what I thought, thanks!

I'm also contemplating a plain ATI R9600XT + ATI TV Wonder VE for $250 shipped but I don't need the tuner.

Will the plain ATI card be any faster?
  • Geeky1Geeky1 University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA, USA)
    edited November 2003
Nope. ATi's card should be identical to ASUS's, in which case it will not be any faster.

Double-check that ASUS's card comes clocked at at least the default 9600XT clock speeds (I can't remember what they are) for the core/RAM tho.

Those are the DEFAULT clocks for the R9600XT shared by the Asus card as posted on their website...

The ATI built 9800XT's have been overclocking higher than Asus but I have no idea how that bears out on the 9600XT's

I received the 9600XT this afternoon and I've been trying to install it w/o much success.
As soon as I load ANY DRIVERS Windows goes nuts, nothing works and I get errors all over the place.
    Any ideas? TIA

    Using Cat 3.9?
  • EQuitoEQuito SoCal, USA
    edited November 2003
I've tried all of them, including Asus and Omega but doesn't look like a drive issue, more like a hardware incompatibility
From the get go Windows behaves very weird, slowing down to a crawl and then hell breaks loose.
No control panel, dll errors, hardware not found, LAN disappears, etc.
The only way out of it is restoring a clean image and start over.
