What do you have the AGP voltage set to? AGP aperture? Are you overclocking?

Motherboard not delivering enough juice to the RV350 to keep her running?

We definately need your system setup information. :)

    Any BSOD's yet?

Is it possible (I've never used Ghost or similar) to put the card in and do a fresh XP (assuming here) install then Ghost over it?

If it's a software problem or a hardware problem, you'd know pretty fast this way - if it's hardware, you'll have problems installing OS **edit - if you do this, set bios to safe defaults first**. If it's software, you'll run fine until you put the partition back on top.

Or I could be talking out my (edited, prime's sister y'know)

Sorry Geeky1, I meant no extra PCI cards at all.

    SimGuy,

Good points, didn't think of it because I never had to worry about that with my old card.

AGP 1.5, aperture 64, not OC'ing atm 2100+ everything stock
I didn't get any bsod's but I got plenty of reboots and lockups

What should I set the voltage and apertuer to?

    Keto,

I'll try a clean install if everything else fails.

Thanks everyone! when it comes to VC's, I've been out of touch for too long...

Your aperture should be ok (WELL within tolerance, in fact to some the recommended setting) but try 128. Your AGP voltage should be ok (default if I'm not mistaken) but try 1.6. Neither of these are *likely* to be the culprit.

**EDIT** had you done a good thorough removal of previous VC drivers, regardless which brand, including all system/program files and registry entries?

I used the ATI removal utility, is that good enough?

Was the video card you were using before the ATI Rage Fury Pro by chance?

If so and you didn't remove all previous instances of the ATI drivers for the Rage 128 Pro GL, the Radeon 9600XT will most definately not play nice with the system. There were no unified drivers for the older Rage 128 Pro GL & VR series of ATI graphics cards, so any little tidbit of video drivers left over from a previous installation most surely will interfere with your new graphics card. :)

Keep your AGP Voltage at 1.5V and your aperture to .. well. The debate of what AGP aperture size to use is ongoing, but I'm going to stick by the old 50% of system memory rule. :)

Yes, I use a 256 MB AGP Aperture, which is 50% of system memory.

ok, I'll look for ATI traces or just try a clean install I guess.
I was trying to avoid that at all costs cause I don't like to call MS for a new ID, I hate all those freaking numbers.

Clean install is the fastest and easiest route to determine if the problem is hardware based or software based.

As for XP Activation... all I can say is *cough* keygen *cough* :D

Keto: I'm guessing EQuito is using a "legal" copy of Windows XP, where activation is required when you both clean install Windows XP or change over 4 hardware devices within a period of... I think it's 4 weeks. :)

    Screwy MS activation crap...

Yeah, legal copy so I have to call them every time I do a clean install to re-activate.

Oh well, see you guys later.

    Thanks!

ok, I almost went crazy in the process but I finally got it. How's this for all stock 3DMark?
Man! there are so many settings to worry about, I better start reading...

    Using Catalyst 3.9's I'm guessing?

Looks a tad low for a 2100+, DDR400 and a 9600XT, but with a little tweaking and overclocking, you'll get those nice scores.

In DirectX 8.1 tests (which 3DM01 tests), you're scoring at approximately the same level as my older P4 2.26B, 512 MB PC800 RDRAM and Ti4400 graphics card (mid 11's stock, low 13's when max OC'd). :)

Thanks for the input. No too bad then but obviously I'm not gonna break any records.
I have so much to learn about this stuff I don't even know where to start.
Yeah, 3.9's full install, is that good or bad? should I use drivers only?
I'll give Omega a run at stock speed.
I see the guys are posting Aquamark scores in a thread here, do you know how do you capture it?

Well, I can fold at 2.3GHz 24/7 but I couldn't bench a that speed so this is at 2.2GHz (200x11) everything else stock and 3.9's, getting there...
I wonder if I use the Thorton @2.4GHz (166x15 / 512k) will make any difference...

3DMark loves the highest FSB you can get.

You'll notice throughout MadOnion's Online Result Browser that systems with CPU's that are clocked at a certain frequency (say a P4 2800 @ 200x14) is outpaced by as much as 500+ points by a P4 2400 overclocked to 2800 (233x12).

Tell me about it, I found out the hard way... ;)

For the past 2 days I've been tweaking and benching trying to get some decent scores to publish on 3DMark03 and finally yesterday I was able to secure the 4th place on the 9600 class... :D
As you can imagine, I was very exited. This was my very first published 3Dmark score and considering my ignorance on the subject, I think it was quite an achievement.

Last night, after a couple of hours of more tweaking I got to 3rd place, ahead of much more powerful systems.
Needless to say, I'm very pleased with this card and I'm already thinking of modifications in the quest for the top... :D

I thought this card was going to serve me well for a couple of years (like my previous ATI) but this 3D stuff can be very addictive so I'm not so sure anymore.

I already see myself upgrading in the near future...

Thanks for all your help!

You should "tweak" that card with one of these:
