From all I've read, nothing will unlock a locked barton.:( AMD must be locking them something like Intel has been locking them for years now.

Damn that sucks. Kinda smart for AMD tho. Now we are gonna have to buy the lower chips with lower multi's and hope they will keep OCing into high FSBs.

Sorry to hear of your loss Mud.

    Just curious mudd,

Is there any special process that goes into installing a mobile processor or is the same as any other athlon xp? Is there any modding required? Also, to overclock it is there any modding or is can all overclocking be done without doing modifications to the chip?

I'm extremely interested in buying one of these as my temps are starting to annoy me and my 1800+ dissapointed me in my overclocking ventures.

Al, the only differences I can find between the desktop procs and my mobile bartons is that some of the bridges that are normally connected on a desktop proc are lasered on the mobile, plus the low multiplier setting. I think that AMD just runs tests to see how well a certain batch of bartons will run at reduced vcore and the ones that pass are set up to be mobile procs. The pcb and slug are exactly the same as the desktop parts. On my NF7-S, you can just set the multi you want in bios, no modding necessary.

Fatcat, you are looking good so far. You shouldn't have any problems getting to past 2300 at least. However, it looks to me that once you start crowding the proc's limit, you will get very little extra speed out of it, even with dramatic vcore increases. The 2400m I'm running now runs fine at 2.4 and 1.85v, but I could only get another 50 MHz even when bumping vcore up to 1.95v.

fudgam, thanks man. My wife has been taking the loss of her father pretty well, considering that it happened right before the holidays.

what temps are u getting running @ 1.85v?...im a little hesitant to up the vcore past 1.8v since that is a 25% increase in voltage. I have a slk900a on it with a 48cfm fan. i would love to hit 2300, that would be nice.

I'm presently running 44 C with a board temp of 23 C. This is cooling it with an SLK800 with a 68 cfm Delta focused flow fan.

OK - due to the less-than-stunning performance of my XP2600+ Barton I just bought, I just clicked "purchase" on one of these over at newegg. I'll see how it does - you guys have some nice results so far. ;)

Thanks, FatCat! I received the processor yesterday, did the same thing you did, and it's chugging away nicely at 2.3 GHz - I should have bought this instead of the XP2600+ in the first place! It runs at 43C like this. I might try lowering the VCore a little bit once it 'burns in' at this setting for a week or so.

    Here's the stepping:
    AXMH2400FQQ4C
    AQXEA0325MPMW

It also did 13x166 (2.17 GHz) at 1.65 VCore with no problem, running around 33C. I'm going to try to get one of these for my girlfriend's rig too!

you guys try 200x11.5 at all? Or even a higher fsb? I will have mone tomorrow (ok well technically today). I will post pics of the chip and results.

Do you know the third line info? A friend got the same stepping.

croc, I've got mine running at 200x11.5 right now, at 1.75 VCore. It pushes it all the way up to 44C on some gromacs, but it's stable as you could want.

The 3rd line is supposed to be something like the serial number. I think the last 3 or 4 digits are the batch number, the lower in the batch the better it should theoretically OC, because it's made to tighter tolerances or something like that.
The one your friend has is number 113 in the batch, which is pretty good. I've got an XP2100+ that does 2.3 no problem on moderate coolign, and it's around 110 or so in the batch.

What temp. is it running at that speed Komete? I may sell the 2500s in my dually and get some, because they're pushing 130*F with SLK-800As and SmartFan2s.

Any idea how many nodes you'll end up with?
BTW, I was going to ask you... iirc, you're in law enforcement... how do I get my "Get out of Jail Free" card? I have an irrational desire to find out if the Mercedes will really do 155MPH, but I have a feeling I'd be needing that card... ;D
  • edited February 2004
I'll probably do it in two phases with five nodes in each phase. I want to get the first two nodes up and running as quickly as possible. I understand your desire and I'm all for it. Don't kill any children in the process. Better yet, take it to the track where the safeguards are in place. I know that takes all the fun out of driving the city streets. Buy a copy of grand theft auto instead. If you're in Lake Charles I could help you out but you'd be terrified driving 155 on our sorry excuses for streets. The most I've done is 130 chasing a crotch rocket and it was plenty fast enough. How come America can't have a NY to LA autobahn? 'Sup with that?
