Is that a Google in your pocket?

Web giant, Google has recently begun investing in R&D for a new cellular phone that runs a Linux-based OS.

So far, they don't seem to have gotten any of the major cell phone manufacturers on board with them, but it's only a matter of time.

What could we expect from GPhone? If their past and current software trends are any indication, the phone will be free, but it will listen in on your conversations, then use its GPS functionality track your location, recommend several nearby retailers, then tell you how to get there. I can't decide if that's creepy or kind-of neat.

On a side-note: My own father still refuses to use GMail because he doesn't like the idea of a computer scanning his personal correspondence.

Creepy? No. Tacky? Yes. Exactly one of the reasons I do not watch TV more than an average of say, 90 minutes a week. I just won't waste my time on commercials. I don't mind advertising that I can easily avoid, such as print or Internet advertising. I can take a quick glimpse, and if it's nothing that interests me or if it seems to be mainly BS and only partially factual (majority of car advertising), I can just move my eyes to something else. On the Internet, I won't even watch the little news site videos if I have to watch a meaningless, cheesy advert at the start.
